Skin care

Discussed before - but what do you all do?

I have both bowel and bladder issues.

I use Bepanthen or similar if I am sore from diarrhea - and it normally helps.

In periods I have itching in the “diaper” area - any tips to share?

Some recommends shaving, others says that it just adds to the itching. I tend to have that experience myself. What do you all do?

For a while i did use Tena Barriercream and Tene Skincare. But curiously enough it seemed to dissolve the material of the diaper. Maybe anyone experienced the same? I do also use Tena diapers, so technically it should be ok ....
Now i only use a skin ointment after a bowel accident. I do not shave, only partly when i use an external catheter. My skin is very thin and i easily get wounds. Some say pubic hair adds to bad odor. My experience is plastic backed diapers lock in the smell very well.

It's been said that the zinc products for babies is comfortable.
You might consider an alien vera leaf cut open and the jelly center to be soothing but it's not a barrier cream just good for skin irritation on all skin

This is something that I have to be on top of as I can develop irritation in some awkward places. I think it is really important to know how your skin responds, what works for me may not be appropriate for you.

1) I try to let my skin breathe as much as, conveniently, possible. After showering seems to work well for me.

2) wipe gently, don’t scrub, and use mild cleaning spray designed for peri care. I make my own to save money.

3) otc creams help with irrigation and the odd rash along with airing out. I use a 40% zinc product that doesn’t smell like dead fish.

4) I don’t shave, it irritates my skin something awful. I do trim with a trimmer and that seems to help.

As someone that has dealt with both B&B incon for many years (especially in an hot environment) Calmoseptine ointment is my go too. It's thick, wont easily rub off and has medicinal properties that really help my skin recover. Don't wait for skin issues, apply in the areas that are prone to have issues.

Calmoseptine is great stuff. I used to use it for irritation from constant diarrhea from my ulcerative colitis. I no longer have an anus, but I still end up using calmoseptine in that area because I still get irritation from friction and sweat.

Thanks :). UC is one of the issues that are haunting me as well…
