Radiotherapy for prostate cancer

Has anyone had radiotherapy to cure prostate cancer when it is confined just to the prostate with a Gleason score of 7

@grseme I have tried reading through some of the information in the link provided by @snow.

I hope people post to this thread. As you read, will you add to this post so that future people will have an easier time.

I was able to talk with one person who chose radiation over prostatectomy. He did 10 weeks radiation 5 days a week. He did not want to do surgery. Not that he say a major benefit in doing radiation, he just did not want to do surgery. He had incontinence starting at about week 3 through week 20.

Back in August and September 2020, I googled and read a few articles about radiation. I seem to recall that you had a 28 core biopsy (the normal is 12) and that 10 of the 28 cores came back with cancer which is 35%. The articles that I read had that the 10 year outcomes were similar with the exception that many of the radiation patients developed incontinence to some degree toward the 8 to 10 year mark.

I have a friend of a friend, that he had a prostatectomy followed by radiation now followed by chemo is a few weeks.

You have already started the below thread where people gave advise. Unfortunately, it appears that like many of us, your are wanting different answers. Also it seems that people respond to the previous persons response instead of the initial request.

I’m curious, do men talk to each other, like friends, about prostate health? Do you encourage your pals to get check-ups and do you tell them when you have problems?

@snow

Yup. We ol' boys network well. Some over a beer, some at work, some in social circles. A few won't listen, but the advice is out there and well shared.

@andy1050 That’s good news. I’m glad to hear American men share about that stuff because they’re not necessarily known for being share-y, but I think it’s great to be share-y.

@snow and @andy1050
Unfortunately, my experience has been that men do not talk about Prostate Health until someone has a problem or someone else starts the conversation. I can say that I do not recall any talk other than get your PSA levels checked yearly.
