Prostate Surgery

I had surgery December 9, my leakage is still pretty heavy. Is it time for it to lighten up some?

What is pretty heavy ? How many pad/diapers a day ? I had mine done on Nov 4 th.

Kagles and walking, keep at it, don't get discouraged. I started seeing progress around 6 weeks, totally dry by 10-22 weeks.

Gkimp..how old are you as I heard that age matters. The younger the better.

I am out 10 weeks and do well for long periods sitting, laying down or driving (2-6 hours). But once Im up and voided it like the next bladder fill up never happen...just a continue leak if i am up and around

I'm at 9 months. I still use a paper diaper and a pad. I have occasional leakage. Do kegels occasionally. Leakage mostly from coughing, sneezing, lifting heavy objects. When my current supply of diapers and pads run out I want to transition to underwear and a lighter pad. I think that will work.

PS had a daVinci procedure by a top guy in the nation as evidenced by where he speaks, trains etc. He does 200/ yr

@56vw I'm a little confused about Kagels, I wonder am I doing them right. You hold like you are holding off when you are about to pee, right?

I had robotic early Nov 1919. It has been 5 1/2 months. I use Tena underwear and they are great. The leaking started to slow down approx 1 month ago. I still leak including at night. I tend to leak more in the evening. The doc said the pelvic floor muscle tires as the day goes by. I do Keagles although I believe they are worthless. I sure wish I had hard data to look at concerning their success. My over active bladder still rears it’s ugly head though. I started low dose 5 mg once per day Oxybutinyn a few week ago. I am 73 .

There are a lot of ups and downs after surgery. Some have a faster recovery then others, some don’t get all the way back. I am 54 and April 5th was 5 months. I have always leaked when exercising, walking long distances, lifting items, and the normal coughing and sneezing. I don’t see a difference from week to week. But I do from month to month. I am dry at night but have to get up around 3 or 4 to void. I walk 2 miles everyday and I leak some still, but very little. In the last week I have finally felt hopeful I will be dry at some point. I just think it can take close to a year for most. I do think being active helps. Just don’t sit on the sofa all day even know you will leak more being active. I now wear a small shield instead of the larger pad. When I walk I still wear a bigger pad because there are still bad days. When I don’t exercise I can wear a one small shield all day. Hope this helps, stay positive

And Doug, most surgeons are experts now with this procedure. It has more to do with how far along your cancer was, and how close they can cut to the prostate. The farther away the more nerves they cut.

Yea my Dr. told me it could take a year. He even mentioned a surgery after a year. Don't mean to get personal are you sexually active? My reason for asking is I've tried with viagra and it still doesn't work.Have you had this problem?

Three acquaintances of mine have had the procedure and it took approx 1 yr to be dry for all three of them. They were in their 60s.
I really have to watch my caffeine intake. One cup of coffee per day and that is it.

True, caffeine can cause you to leak more. I try to limit myself to 1 cup in the morning and that’s it.

Yes, viagra gives a little blood flow but not an erection for sex. They say it takes longer than a year. I think being worried about leaking affects your psyche. I am waiting until I get to about 8 months before trying again. Viagra is so expensive

I'm 61, I did my Kagles, and walked 3 times a day for a total of about 3 miles. At about 8 weeks I went back to work, where I walked about 5 miles a day. I wore a pad until week 12, then went with a shield. At a certain point I was leaking so little, that sweating was worse than any leakage.
