Private part shrinkage after RP

There are indeed some highly skilled surgeons out there. The one that did my surgery is very good indeed and has co-author d textbooks on the subject. My surgery was described as bilateral nerve sparing.

Things happen. Is about all I can say. My prostate was described as small, in fact I was told that it was too small for the radioactive seed implantation. Yet I have shrinkage.

Nerves were spared yet at 22 months post surgery I struggle with ED. There is some movement in the region when I become aroused but nothing resembling sufficient for sex. No pills have shown any increase over what I can attain naturally. In June 2022 I started using penile injections. Presto we have a winner. Is it fun? No, overcoming the psychological aspect of sticking yourself in that area with a needle is huge for me. But hey it works and works well. Remember there are alternatives.

Best wishes to all on here and Bgh I will definitely keep you in mind as you enter into this journey with the rest of us.

In response to Bgh's question about medication to shrink an enlarged prostate, the answer is yes. I had an enlarged prostate and several years prior to my prostate cancer diagnosis my urologist prescribed medication to shrink my prostate (I don't remember the medicine's name but it began with a "F". After taking it for a short time I noticed that I couldn't get an erection. I researched the side effects of the medicine and saw that the top listed side effect was impotency. I called my doctor about it and he instructed me to stop taking it.

@maureen2623 I wonder if you are referring to Flomax, which is commonly used for BPH. If so, it doesn't "shrink" the prostate; rather it makes the muscles in the prostate and bladder more relaxed to allow for urine to flow more freely. Do you think that's the medication your urologist prescribed?

And as always @bgh;

Please consult a doctor or MD when asking about these medicines to see if they will work for you.

But I'm glad we found medicines out there that may help you provide symptom relief. Myrbetriq worked for myself for a while - then unfortunately didn't; but it's that medicine specifically for some reason I hear happens to alot of people.

May the Lord guide you towards happiness and healing.

Thanks guys, but I was addressing the issue with RP causing more p__is shrinkage the larger the prostate is upon its removal. Rogersk gave the explanation above... ;and I was stating that my prostate is super-enlarged, so upon removal after RP, Mr. Happy is not only not going to be happy, he's also going to be a runt. Counting down 'til Wednesday. I need your prayers guys. Also, what should I be doing over the next 2 days prior to surgery. Are there any particular foods and/or activities I should eat or engage in.

Enjoy life. After Wednesday it will not be over but could be different. One difference that I hope you are not experiencing currently is pain and soreness. I did a series of videos, just a little short check in each day for a few days after getting home from the hospital. I actually did the first one in the parking garage as we left the hospital. I saw where someone else had done this it was not an original idea of mine.

Going back and watching those I can see the improvement in my demeanor and appearance each day.

Like I said life may be different. So enjoy the days before. Difference include like stated before pain and soreness both short lived. A few days is nothing. Although I remember saying during the first few days that I wished I had just let the cancer do whatever it was going to do and not had the surgery. Stupid I know but I was in pain.

The catheter is your friend. You don’t have to get up during the night or any other time while the soreness is at it’s worse. Then comes the incontinence, also for many short lived again a few weeks/months go by fast.

Then there’s the ED short lived for some not so much for others like me. But there are alternative methods of making things work again.

Then there is the shrinkage also short lived for some. Sorry about using “short”. May I should say that for some the duration of the shrinkage is not very long. Oops! Well let’s just say there may be ways to help with this also.

And then the best thing of all that is different. Your cancerous prostate is gone and possibly all of the cancer is removed from your body.

Sorry for some of the humor but I am speaking from experience and can joke about it with anyone. Not ashamed that I pee a little at times when I don’t mean too. I might be embarrassed if I had a major accident and wet my clothes where others could see. But I can talk about any of it. I am happy and enjoying life. You will too.

Best wishes and prayers that everything goes very well with you.

The two best things I read in that post from @Alh63;

"And then the best thing of all that is different. Your cancerous prostate is gone and possibly all of the cancer is removed from your body"

"Best wishes and prayers that everything goes very well with you."

Everything else is just a learning experience with symptoms. I too pray that your procedure goes smoothly with little to no disturbances in your life.

We all care for you here at the NAFC. There are many here - past and present. A friend named "Puka" said his goodbye many moons ago - onwards to living a beautiful life. May his story inspire you to come back, share good memories and even emotional thoughts - and unto better days.

Blessings In Christ,

Yes I saved the best things for last. The other things are indeed from my experience and from reading other’s experiences. All with a little dash of humor. If we can’t laugh we grow a frown. Something that I really don’t intend to do.

NAFC has been invaluable to me as a way to learn from others and hopefully a method for me to share a small amount of knowledge to others traveling down this road.
