Physical therapy update.

Well today what the first part of physical therapy testing and the start of trying to see what can be done to fix this issue.

The testing was a little weird as in was a manual anal test (IE Finger up the bum for almost 40 minutes) but It told my Therapist a lot.
First that my muscle are very tight and tighten up when ever something is felt in that area.
Second that there is a lot of scare tissue on my abdomen from surgery and that needs to be addressed as well..
third, she is going to work with GI to see if I can get some other testing done after next visit.
Forth, we cannot deal with the bladder issue just yet because she wants me to try to get the muscles to relax before trying to address that issue. (I understand that because I could deal with the bladder stuff a lot better than I can the bowel but still hard to work with the bladder acting up as bad as it has and she understands that)
Fifth, More testing is in the future. She wants to see about getting additional tests to get a better idea of what my digestive system is doing and will be pushing for that after next time and she sees if the physical therapy she wants me to do works.

***Her big worry is that I have been dealing with this for so long that it could take a year or more to fix. (Most of the time kids get this and it takes a year to fix where as I have had this for most of my life she is thinking.)

Sixth, she is ready to help me with any paperwork I need to show work or insurance that I need to be out of work tell this is done or they say I cannot be helped. (Bad side of it is that my short term disability may end before I get better so I may have to work on getting SSD if she feels like this is going to be that long or never work out)

Lastly, She told me that this will get worst before it gets better. (once the muscles relax I will have no control until we retrain my brain and the muscles to work right. The issue is that I did not show any ability to do two of the things she needs me to which is why she whats more testing (MRI or something) so she can see how bad the damage is from surgery (May have stomach muscles that will never be right again)

All in all this was a good appointment but this month sucked... (Green day song playing loudly in my head...Wake me up when September ends)

So more doctor visits. She wants me back to the GI doctor after next visit and to see my PCP on my set date and then to work with everyone to come up with a timeline for what test and things can be tried.

I am still on the same meds for now and last night I only made it for a hour at work and did not go in tonight at all due to the appointment and all that is going on, so I worked about 15 hours this hole month.

I am in good sprite but I am tired of all of this and was not ready to be told that I have year +++ of therapy to look forward to.

Hope for a better week next week.

Glad to hear good news. And I have the Greenday wake me up song on a 45 vinyl record, its one of my favorites.

Hey, for the first time you are moving forward. It may take a while but life is long so hopefully the therapy will give you a lot if remedy for a lot of years.
You are an inspiration and I tjink many are following what your therapist tells you. I had knee and heel problems that the doc just threw pills at, bit a PT really changed my life

Hi FlGuy, I think you have really lucked out in finding a therapist who is really taking all of this seriously!:D Frankly I'm not surprised it's not going to be a quick fix by any stretch of the imagination but at least it sounds like it'll be a fix somehow! This will call for patience on your part so just stick with the program. Maybe someone can give you a gift card for gas for you to be able to get back and forth to your appointments. But if that's what it takes....
There may be times when you think, "Oh, what's the use?" It's human nature. But instead just think of your ultimate goal in that you're going to conquer this for once and for all and keep plowing right on through!
And the fact she will help with the paperwork overcomes a huge hurdle for you as we have all known recently! Good for your therapist! I think she's a real keeper! And if you do need more testing such as an MRI, etc., then so be it! At least you'll be getting the answers that you have struggled for so long to get! And you know something? If you continue to work exactly as your therapist says then it could possibly be resolved in less than a year! One never knows. The human body can do remarkable things, and when you think positively you may be pleasantly surprised! And take it from Doug, right up above. He had heel and knee problems but it was really a physical therapist who changed his life. And the same is going to happen for you!
That's really good news from you and we'll be here to give you a boost when you need it!

Congratulations on moving forward to recovery. You took the first step. Continue to do what your doctors advise, and you will be on the road to success. Keep us posted on your therapy and recovery. Good luck on your journey and stay safe and healthy.

You sounded so upbeat in you post, when you listed all the things you learned! I am so happy that you have this wonderful PT who is totally on your side! You did it!

Wow! I am ever impressed by the human ability to adapt and cope. @ThatFLGuy I bet six months ago, you never would have thought having a stranger’s finger up your bum for 40 minutes could be a positive experience and a relief. What a test; sounds painful. Let that be a lesson for you as you continue through the PT, that you can eventually survive all this!

Hi @snow, you do have a unique way with words! :O And that's something I NEVER would have thought of: a positive experience from having a stranger stick a finger up your rear for 40 minutes! But I agree, FLGuy, if you can survive that little exercise then you can survive anything the therapist and medicos will throw at you! :D
