Pain with sacral nerve stimulator

Hi there, I've had a stim fitted for two years and since getting it fitted I have suffered terrible backach. I recently turned it off and the back pain has almost gone. Has anybody else suffered from back pain with a stimulator?

I have a friend in Canada who had this installed and worked great for a year then the back and stomach pain started and was unbearable so she had it removed. I’ve heard stories of this happening. I decided that I will not have this installed on me as I am just too afraid it will cause other issues down the road.

I am on my 3rd InterStim. I have never had any problems with them causing back pain. However, I do have back pain from many years before starting InterStim therapy.

I assume you have tried adjusting the program and intensity.

I also assume you have the device placed in a location that is out of the way of your sitting position and not under your belt. Mine is above my beltline, and not under my butt.

I've had some minor back pain on the left side where my Interstim is, but it's unclear whether it's related to the Interstim at all. I have not noticed any change from turning off the device.

I can see where misplaced leads might cause back pain. Definitely something to discuss with your doctor!

Many thanks for your replies they are really helpful. Mine is in my buttock, I will have a word with the consultants about the misplaced leads issue.
