I've had issues with bed wetting since my second child was born. I thought it was a phase and would just go away... Boy was I wrong. It seems that has the years went on, it had gotten a little worse. I have tried everything you can think of. Nothing has worked. I'm tired of living with it and tired of having to buy a new mattress every year or two. I've been dealing with this since 1992. I am ashamed and embarrassed. I know I should have talked to my doctor years ago but couldn't bring the subject up. Anyone else feel this way? How did you get the courage to actual open up to your doctor? How do they determine what causes it?

Welcome to the club! I here what you are saying, I was afarde to talk with my urologist about it. They did a test,is where to see how much my bladder could hold. After the test was over my urologist told me I had a small bladder and had me try different meds and other treatment. None of them work for me.i been in diapers for most of my life. I think you should talk to your doctor and let he/she know what is going on with your bedwetting. You may want to get some portaction like pull ups or adult diapers.there are alot of them online.

I have tried the adult pull-ups and they have failed. It seems at times, I can hold it but what catches me off guard, is when I have to pee and don't even know it and then out of the blue I am holding my breath and running for the bathroom. Sometimes, I am not able to make it and that frustrates me even more.. I have to wear a pad when I go to work, just for the comfort of knowing I have something there to protect me

My wife's loss of nocturnal bladder control stems from her Parkinson's Disease. At night she uses an external female catheter connected to a suction machine that has a 1200cc reservoir. It's called a Purewick system and is sold by Liberator medical. Google the term Purewick on Youtube for detailed info. It is not covered by insurance but it simply works! Outside of the initial financial outlay, I have devised a cleaning method for catheter re-use. I can freely share this cleaning method with anyone interested. This system keeps her dry at night. Many hospitals are now using this system for their bedwetting patients.

I don't use pull ups I use adult diapers with tape tabs. Pull ups aren't for bedwetting, but diapers are they hold more. I get my diapers from North shore diapers and they are the magemax diapers.or you can try catheters they might help you. If I were you I would talk to a nurse or doctor on the best way to get portaction, you might want to check with nafc for help.

There is no reason to ruin mattresses.put a plastic cover over it. I’ve wet my whole life and deal with it with pin on cloth diapers and plastic pants. Yes it’s an adjustment but you’ll find it so much better than a soaked bed. Mine is a result of a neurogenic bladder. Go to an eurolofist, that’s what the deal with all day, everyday!

Please don't be afraid to see a doctor - just go to one who is able to do the right tests to help with your particular issues. Find a uro-gynecologist or a urologist - they specialize in continence issues. You are not alone - there are millions of us here. The right doctor has heard it before and will not make you feel embarrassed.

I'll add some thoughts since my icon issues began with bedwetting as well.

First off, there's absolutely no need to ruin and buy mattresses. A combination of a high quality diaper and mattress protector make this problem disappear. I'm a side sleeper, back sleeper, stomach sleeper and I wet every single night and maybe my diaper leaks a handful of times per year. It takes time, patience and lots of trial and error to find a diaper that works for you. I'm assuming you're not wearing one....if so, you should reconsider. It's a difficult thing to accept and start doing, but once you start wearing them and see how you get much better/uninterupted sleep you'll wish you started years ago.

The doctor thing is a MUST. Adult onset bedwetting is almost always due to an underlying medical issue....that could be as simple as overactive bladder (in my case this is what it is), to diabetes, or worse. You NEED to get it checked out.

It's embarrassing but you need to remember doctors are professionals who see this stuff every day. I'd just make the appointment and when he/she asks what brings you in just say, "i'm having problems with nocturnal enuresis"....boom, done. His ball now, let him run with it...just be honest in answering questions. I found it easier personally to use the medical term when I first saw a doctor about this. It just felt less embarrassing to me to use a medical term (nocturnal enuresis) rather than say "I'm wetting the bed".

For products I'd strongly recommend getting samples of Better Dry (my favorite), Northshore MegaMax, Northshore Supreme, and if ABDL prints don't bother you, look into Rearz. They do have a plain white called Inspire + InControl....but their Barnyard diaper is even more absorbent if you can get past ridiculous baby prints....

I have used a plastic mattress pad and a pad that goes on the bed (like the ones hospitals use), I've worn different pull ups and my mattress still gets soaked. I have even tried not drinking any 8 hours before bed, boy did that not work. I've tried keeping a journal of when it happens and how often. I have a feeling there's a medical reason for it. I will muster up the courage and go see a specialist

For my wife, the use of muscle relaxants later in the evening made the wetting worse. Be judicious in the use of those.

I put large reusable pads down on the bed under me, a smaller one on that and then a towel on that. Plus I wear cheapo pull-ups because that’s what I can get with Medicaid and also booster pads. That USUALLY gets me through the night, unless I move wrong. Hang in there!
