New to the bedwetting topics

I am new to the NAFC Forums and bed wetting topics. I am a 78 year old man and I have had a prostatectomy in 2002. I have been OK since then as far as the prostate. I have had open heart surgery a couple of years ago when I had my aorta valve replaced. I am on a small 12.5 MG diuretic for high blood pressure (which is under control). I have had episodes of light headedness since the heart surgery which the heart doctor keeps telling me to drink more water. I have had a couple of instances of bed wetting in the last few years. One last night. With the pandemic I have been doing a lot of nothing in the afternoons except looking at the computer. I go to Dunkin Donuts in the morning an get a medium coffee and sometime I am still drinking the same coffee at four in the afternoon. I was getting a pain in my lower abdomen last week and I thought it was the coffee so I cut down. Pain seems to have subsided but yesterday I changed my routine and had a coffee in the late afternoon. Wet the bed last night. Oh, I am also taking a baby aspirin (against my wishes) on instructions from the heart doctor after heart valve replacement for a blood thinner. I mention this in relation to the stomach pain and not the bed wetting. I stopped the aspirin for a few days also trying to pin point the stomach pain.
I downloaded the NAFC Common Bladder Irritants list and I did not realize Cranberries were an irritant. I thought they were good for your bladder problems? Also apples. I always eat cranberries thinking I am doing a healthy thing. I have not a problem with the cranberries. However I may have increased the amount the last couple of days. Juice and cranberry sauce!
Any advice with the bed wetting issue would be appreciated.
Thank you,
TomS

I would see your urologist right away, to me sounds like retention, I'm NO DOCTOR, as no one else is here. Email or call if needed. And welcome to the forum,

Hi Spetho,
Welcome! Boomersway is correct. Reach out to your urologist and get checked out. They can rule out anything serious that can be going on. Good luck to you. Hopefully it’s just something minor.

Hi spetho sounds like you should check with your doctor, I would suggest the Gzp not necessarily a specialist as a start point.follow the instructions like baby aspirin, drink water(these are good tools against light headless which can land you a nasty fall)
Coffee is a real issue for nocturnal wetting. Having it at 4 pm is definitely not a good idea. The citric acid in cranberries is also irritating.

you have been fortunate with after prostate wetting but it also sounds like you are needing company if you spend the day at dunking D so keep in touch with us here and let us know how it works out.

You are trying to diagnose without a medical degree or the tests available to do so. You are 78, #### goes wrong and procrastination is your biggest enemy.

I get it Im 72 and have had 20 surgeries and now afib and just came home today at 6am for LONG OVERDUE SLEEP APNea test. Not a big deal butbi put it off and it has worked against me. I get, you're tired of testx. I am to.

But you joined this great group and we are glad to have you. Please see your doctor. It may actually be a simple solution. Let us knoe, please

Welcome Spetho2001 I'am sorta in the same boat don't have all the problems as you but the be wetting is always there. The people on NAFC always give good advice and are nice to talk to.Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Tom. Hope you get help here as well as from a doctor / urologist.

I drink 350ml of no added sugar cranberry juice daily and swear it helps my bladder and prevents UTI's. What works for one, might not work for another and we are all unique in our own way.

It would be good to get a set of vital signs done to rule out blood pressure related issues and test for things like diabetes at your age.

I hope you have invested in a couple of good mattress protectors and if you are concerned with nocturnal enuresis, urologists can go through some options with you so you can sleep protected and well.

Good luck and let us know what you do.

Hi Tom, (lot easier to spell than the screen name!) Welcome to the forum! :D You will meet a lot of people here who have had a lot of experience and will give good, friendly advice. This is a safe place and you can talk openly and feel completely at ease with whatever you would like to say.
I agree with everyone above in that you need to get in touch with your doctor, sooner, rather than later, and discuss those pains, plus the other issues that you are having. Definitely you do need to get the doctor's advice on your medications now. I did notice that you said you have started drinking coffee in the late afternoon. Not a good idea at all if you're dealing with nighttime incontinence. The caffeine etc., really kicks in and makes the urinary system much more active and you don't want that through the night!
I agree with Maymay in that if you're spending afternoons at Dunkin' Doughnuts you do need that social interaction and that is good! But we here are also very open and are always happy to offer help and to chat!
So, please let us know how you make out at the doctor and stay in touch with us!
