Welcome Layla, I hope you find this forum and its members helpful, understanding and friendly. I think I most people are in the US but there are a few like me in the UK. Dealing with incontinence is difficult but in my experience it does get easier. At the end of the day it is a medical condition that needs managing in the best way possible for you/the individual. I am 61 and have had bladder problems pretty much my entire life bar 17 years. I wet the bed as a child up to aged 6 so still wore nappies at night. I was then dry for 5 years but started to wet the bed again aged 11. Our family nanny suggested that I should go back to wearing nappies again, which I did as it saved a lot of wet sheets and wet pyjamas. Back then it was terry nappies and waterproof pants as there were no larger size disposable nappies. I was still in nappies aged 14 when I eventually became reliably dry at night. I was then dry until I suffered a spinal injury in my mid 20s and started to wet the bed again. I plucked up courage to speak my GP and was referred to a urologist. At the same time I was referred to my local specialist nurse continence adviser who was amazing, so understanding and helpful. I tried various meds unsuccessfully and so in the end she suggested that perhaps I should go back to wearing nappies again. I had told her about my previous problems with wetting the bed. On the one hand this was no big deal as I had been used to wearing nappies as a teenager and all that entailed. On the other hand it was isolating and I was embarrassed and scared to stay away overnight for fear of it being found out that I had to wear nappies. After a while I became more comfortable and confident but still kept it a secret and staying away had to be carefully planned. Nappies, nappy bags, plastic sheet etc. When I was 30 I met my now wife of 31 years. I told her pretty much straight away that I had to wear nappies at night and she was immediately so understanding and never made a fuss about it, even explaining to friends if we were staying away as I was too embarrassed to. Unfortunately further spinal issues affected my day time bladder control and a decade or so on I lost all bladder control and was in nappies 24/7 to manage it. I tried catheters and such like but always got UTIs so again advised by my continence adviser decided that adult nappies are the best way for me to manage it. Now they are just a part of my everyday and night clothing. And wearing nappies is infinitely better than wet beds and clothes. I wish you all the best on your journey as you deal with your incontinence.
