I am 7 weeks post-radical prostatectomy, and I seem finally to be rapidly making progress at overcoming the incontinence that came with the surgery. It isn't completely gone, but almost.
There is something I've noticed, though, that I wonder if others who had radical prostatectomy noticed. I haven't had a chance to discuss it with my urologist yet -- my follow-up appointment is another 5 weeks or so from now. When I pee, I often have 2 streams of urine going at the same time, aimed in slightly different directions. I've researched this a bit, and it sounds like it could be a symptom of scar tissue in the urethra. I wonder if it goes away on its own, if it just always stays that way, or if it gets worse. From what I've read, the "treatment" is watchful waiting or dilation of the scar tissue, or urethrotomy (cutting the scar tissue, which apparently has a very low (10%) chance of success, or urethroplasty to replace the scarred urethra tissue with a skin graft from inside the cheek. I certainly don't want the last of those, which apparently carries with it 2-3 weeks with a Foley catheter. That sounds worse than the prostatectomy itself. I'm hoping it just goes away.
Anybody else?
