so im having more and more bowel accidents and its getting frustrating. I chalked this mornings up to too much coffee as I had 2 large cups and it was my 2nd bowel movement of the day. the first one I made it to the toilet but the second one I wasn't so lucky. fortunately I was wearing a diaper so I just had to clean what I could and hop in the shower. but im terrified of having one when im out. I stopped scheduling doctors appointments in the morning and if I do have one for some reason I don't eat or drink anything before I go. I went to the gi doctor yesterday and he said he thinks I have gastritis and maybe some other things that he is going to test for. urinary issues I can handle. bowel yea no. any tips on how to deal with it?

My only tip, which you probably already know is to limit your amount of coffee, or stop drinking it altogether. Good luck.

I agree that a lot of coffee can have a cathartic effect on your digestive system. It's a stimulant. Less is more in this case!!!

Go to half regular coffee and half decaf, 1 pound each. After the first mix you will hardly notice the difference in the taste but the caffeine will be reduced and you can start drinking decaf which only has a minimal amount of caffeine. It still smells like regular coffee. I add just a pinch of salt to my decaf to decrease any bitterness and I make even that weak, 1 heaping tablespoon decaf to 5 cups water. I sometimes use instant decaf but it doesn't stay in the filter very well so have to rinse out the filter cup. Restaurant decaf actually tastes better than my home brew probably because it's stronger and I didn't have to make it!!

Coffee and caffeine is such an ingrained part of my day. Get up have a cup of coffee and smoke. (Which yes I know smoking is terrible for me but I’m not ready to give it up yet). The combo is terrible for my bowels though. I worked at Starbucks for 3 and a half years and got addicted to the stuff. We used to call decaf skinny lattes what’s the point latte. I don’t drink sodas and I have probably 2 cups. Maybe 3 Throughout the day. It seems to only be a problem in the morning though. I use a k cup machine so measuring out decaf and regular is a pain. I dunno. I know coffee isn’t my only trigger. I don’t wanna give up my caffeine 😫😫😫😫

Coffee and bread are the two big IBS triggers for me. Since cutting back on both and having osteopathy for it I wouldn't say my IBS is 'cured' but I'm in a lot less discomfort and next to no close calls (if only the same were true with my urinary issues!)

I get what you mean about caffeine though - chronic fatigue means I have to have a fair amount just to be able to stay awake during the day. I tend to drink diet energy drinks and whilst they can be problematic health wise they are much better for my IBS. Caffeine pills and dissolvable tablets are also more options out there - using the latter kept me awake and helped with hydration, although they didn't taste good.

I gave up coffee a few weeks ago because I couldn’t tell if that was causing my bowel accidents or not. I will not drink it anymore if it is the culprit. I will try drinking one cup of decaf occasionally.
