Incontinence 2 yrs post-prostatectomy

I am almost 2 years after prostatectomy surgery and using 2 diapers per day.
The more I walk the more I leak, no leakage sitting or laying.
I am wondering if any improvement is still possible naturally after 2 yrs post-surgery.

The physical therapist that worked with me on my kegel exercises said after 18 months you have what you have.

I am 10 months out. I am dry at night and when walking. Heavy activity, golf, etc are a problem. Drinking beer is also a problem.

There is still a possibility of improvement after 2 yrs. What has your urologist said? I assume you have had periodic check ups. There are procedures that can help with incontinence. The gold standard is the implantation of an artificial urinary sphincter. I have chosen not to pursue this procedure due to my age and past history. It has been 3 1/2 yrs. since my prostatectomy combined with a bladder diverticulotomy. I wear diapers daily. I now have heart failure, and have been told that I should drink 4 liters of water per day. As a result my diaper use has gone up...2-3 per day. I did have control issues prior to my prostatectomy, so I have grown accustomed to wearing diapers. After a period of time, it becomes pretty routine. Hopefully, in your case you will see improvement. Talk to your urologist, and see what he/she suggests. Good luck.

Nild,

There are a number of factors that come into play on how much more recovery you may have. Without knowing more about your medical history and post surgery recovery it is hard to offer any recommendations. In normal circumstances where you are today is most likely the life style you will have for the future.

Certainly talk to your PCP and your urologist. Ask for another round of physical therapy to strengthen your Kegel muscles and do those exercises routinely.

Best of luck,

Thank you for the response. I worked with physical therapist for over 1 year and feel it was not very helpful. She still tries to convince me that strengthening of muscles can continue beyond 2 yrs, but I never heard of someone who had an improvement after being incontinent for so long. After researching AUS and sling options I decided not to do any of them.
