I am on disability and receive both Medicare and Medicaid and as a result, my incontinence supplies are covered under my insurance well I was under a different agency prior to April and I was being supplied the Molicare slip briefs these are the plastic-backed diapers that they changed from the old purple-colored covers to the blue-covered ones and they were working good for me well I was having other issues with the agency I was working with as a result the agency I am working with now is working much better with me now with the exception of the supplier I am getting my diapers from this company is called J&B Medical I believe they are in Michigan J&B is their insurance provider side of their company they do have a commercial side Diaper Buys https://www.diaperbuys.com/
well anyways this J&B has been a real pain to deal with especially with very poor communications it can take an hour or two to get someone on the phone they do have a user board with a message board and it claims it could take one business day for a reply I have seen it take 2 weeks for a reply to make a long story short very poor communication

well anyways that is not the reason for this post I just wanted to show what kind of bs I have been going through to get my diapers supplied and it took me almost 2 months to receive my first shipment and the diaper they are supplying me with is the Attends Poly brief very poor quality diapers

I require a heavier diaper and my doctor did write a Letter of Medical Necessity for a higher capacity diaper well I just checked the status for my next shipment of my next order and found the following

08/20/2019 9 Bag UNDERPAD, 23 X 36 IN, BG/10, SIMPLICITY BASIC
08/20/2019 2 Box GLOVES, X LARGE, POWDERFREE, VINYL, SEMPERMED
08/20/2019 16 Bag BRIEF, ADULT, 39-60 IN, BG/12, ABENA ABRIFORM L4

looks like I will be getting a better quality diaper and no more Attends

Awesome to hear about the step up in diapers with the insurance. I was on that same insurance a while ago. The supplies I was getting from was called Activestyle. At first I was getting Tranquility ATN's for night and Tranquility Slim during the day. Then about a year later, I started getting the crappy Rely cloth backed diapers. What a joke that was. I called activestyle and found out that the insurance made the switch. I then called my doctor to see what he could do. He sent them a letter also to switch back to what I was getting before. It took about a month to get the insurance to make the switch back. The reason they switched my diaper was Rely was a cheaper diaper. I would love to put crappy diapers on the agents at the insurance company and see how they feel about the cheap diapers.

I bet the agents would be getting you the best available out there if they had to wear crappy diapers/briefs/nappies/pull-ups/absorbent underwear.(was trying to be politically correct with the terms 🥰

hey I agree WITH YOU there the Tranquility even the Slim LINE would be a step up from these crappy Attends at least they have leak guards yes I would like to see the insurance providers have to use the crap they try to make us use and see how far they get

when I first signed up with J&B Medical the sent me some samples to try and choose from the only plastic-backed diapers they offered me were these crappy Attends Poly Briefs or the Conviden Wings which were even worse

here is a copy of the letter minus personal info

To whom it May concern:
Xxxxx xxxxx is a patient of mine at xxxxxxxxx . He has incontinence of both stool as well
as urine. I am writing this letter on his behalf in support of the medical necessity of Abena Abri-form
incontinence supplies. The patient has historically tried alternatives including Attends and Tranquility Brand
products. These have not provided him adequate absorbent see or proper fit which has lead to skin
breakdown. They requested brand has been effective for him (Abena). It provides a large protection area
with waterproof exterior preventing his clothing from getting wet or soiled. Please provide the requested
Abena Abri-form incontinence supplies.
Sincerely,

Really great idea
Get a letter of medical necessity from the doctor!

yes they had to submit the letter to Medicaid for approval it looks like it was approved perhaps others could use the letter as a sample letter to take to their doctor

Take note people!!
Doctors orders!

Oh, I need this! I also work with Medicare/Medicaid and Activ-style. I get lousy diapers and use three booster pads in each. Due to limitations, I can only get two pull-ups a day to get adequate boosters. I will be looking to get a letter from my doctor.

Good thinking🙂 I have always just paid out of pocket. Hate getting the run around from places. Especially insurance. They have really turned it into a rip off for consumers and a cash cow for themselves in allot of cases.

Thanks for the sample letter dpcare. Im going to reference it when i see my primary care doc on the 5th to see if i can get medicaid to cover abenas for me as well. I tried to go through j&b but dc medicaid is out of network for them so im going to talk to my supplier and see what we can do.

Living proof incontinent people can be creative thinkers and doers! Nothing wrong with our brains if depression doesnt weigh us down!

I can definately be creative maymay. Probably stems from my time being homeless. Guess i got stuck in survival mode

Hi EJ,
You doing okay? Nice weekend, hope your area was decent as well. Nice to know a couple folks not to far from us.
Have a great weekend.

Jim

Hey Jim - im doing ok. Been struggling with some stomach issues as of late. Grateful for diapers. Made my own dinner (on one leg) so that felt great. Get my test prosthetic on the 4th. 4 days before my 42nd bday

Excellent! Happy almost Birthday too! Diapers are a blessing for sure. (I need to order some more) daytime ones don’t work well enough and I’m tired of doing laundry everyday...Hope you made something good for dinner. I just got to Walmart so have to run for now. Good to hear from you. Excited they are getting you hooked up. I know that will help you so much. (My friend has both amputated. I never knew until he told me. Be well my friend!
Jim

sounds like you're making great adjustments I hope the dinner you made for yourself turned puy good and yes any one of us with incontinence find ourselves thankful for diapers at one time or another
