How to contain 50 ounces overnight?

Hi Everyone,

My catheter came out today post prostate removal. I will admit I'm a bit intimidated by the prospect of leaking while I sleep and wrecking the very expensive mattress. Over the last few days, my catheter bag has held up to 50 ounces in the morning.

My current Depend FIT-Flexs are rated for 20-25 ounces. I plan to sleep on a Medline Heavy Absorbency 36" x 36" Quilted Bed Pad and I have no idea how much urine it can hold.

Very curious... how do you all who have a high nighttime output deal with this?

There are many of the tape on briefs that hold that much or more. Not exactly great to wear but they do the job.

Me again, I was putting out substantial levels overnight while my catheter was in. After removal I’ve had issues with control and urgency during the day but have not encountered issues and night. Like you I was concerned about the mattress and had my wife add a waterproof cover AND used an absorbent pad for the first week after removal but that didn’t end up being a problem in my case. I was able to sleep through the night and then void 500+ ml in the morning not having had any leakage during the night at all. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure so I agree with your approach, but you may end up as fortunate as I was. We all just have to see how things progress.

First, drink your fluids (64oz) early in the day, be all done drinking water, by 7pm, you will cure most of this.

50?!? I don't think i was ever told how much in hospital with catheter, so you had an unusual nurse!
It's springtime in Alaska. Snowing, in south-central but it's 38 degrees! So far, I'm not 6-feet below :O

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful replies. These will all help.

Curious, does anyone recommend Penaten or Destin for penis shaft and testicle sack protection?

I use desitin for scrotal protection. I use baby powder in the diaper areas as well

I've found booster pads have greatly reduced leaks and I use disposable bed pads for added insurance. Pjama pyjamas may be something worth looking into - they're really pricey and I don't quite know how they work but they're supposed to absorb urine (it's a UK link but think they're a US company).
