@physlink what is a HBA1c test? Is it different from just a A1c test?

@Jmoss90 here in the UK it is a test that measures the mean blood glucose level over 3 months. It may have a different name elsewhere? Phil

@Squander I'm pleased to report that my blood glucose is normal. I will measure it again tomorrow morning before eating anything to make sure. Thanks for suggesting this, it is always good to be sure, cheers Phil

The companies that make the glucose meters sell them cheap, even give them away. It's the test strips, insulin, and needles/pens where they make their money. Our (USA) Insurance only pays if prescribed. The cost increases in Insulin aren't just a scandal, they are criminal, as far as I'm concerned.
