Flank pain and trouble through the day

When I farted during my first PT session with my wonderful therapist, he said, "I didn't hear that." You might try that reponse with family members who are um, insensitive. When you know you are "noisy" from a diaper, just say, "You didn't hear that." The phrase is genius because it sets a behavior expectation and tells people how you want to deal with it. Might not work with everyone, but it's worth a try. And you could just try, "I know it's noisy, and that it makes us all uncomfortable, but I would really like you to just ignore it as I cannot do anything about it and comments make me feel terrible." Don't feel that you cannot ask people to respond differently.

I do like Etowah's second option. Sometimes you have to be direct and just hit 'em between the eyes with a response like "just ignore it as I cannot do anything about it and comments make me feel terrible." Well that's the truth and it doesn't hurt to speak it!
