ER Wait time

Went to Local ER on Sunday around 1 p.m Was told about a 2-3 hour wait. Signed in. About 1 hour later they asked me the spelling of my last name. I went in thinking I had appendicitis. Finally at 10:30 p.m I was called into triage for necessary insurance information. Waited again until 11:30 p.m. and finally went in the back. Blood was drawn, pee test, etc. IV inerted with antibiotics. Then had CT scan at 130 am, Monday. Results took 2 hrs. Finally found I had diverticulitis. Was discharged at 430am Monday. They have a minimum of 27 ER beds. No explanation why it took so long other than busy, short staffed.

@artiejr

They let you go home knowing that you currently had Diverticulitis?

My doctors would be firing er people if they ever did that.

Did they give you medications? or anything?

I am asking because Diverticulitis almost killed me in 2018 so it has to be treated.

Like if I have one instance of it now I have to have surgery.

I hope you are seeing a gastroenterologist asap.

I'm in Australia and ER wait times are terrible here, people waiting outside hospital ER's in ambulances for hours and ambulances being diverted away to other hospitals ~ it is coinciding with the covid vaccine mandates and big increase in vaccinations, so good probability people presenting with adverse vaccine reactions are contributing to delays here

Good advice. My dad had diverticulitis in 1996 and went to the ER. They sent him home and a week later he was back in the hospital having emergency surgery after his intestines perforated, it almost killed him.

@caseywor

I was in the ER/ED in Florida a month before I almost died crying in pain and all they did was give me pain meds and a prescription for a bowel clean out. No CT or anything. My one doctor up here told me I could have been already sick then and they didn't do their job. So I take anytime I have gut pain very seriously.

On top of the Nurses / Doctor shortages I reported here a month or so ago, over 1000 Nurses short prior to new mandates they have now let go another 1500+ of workers and technicians in every position. Here in Raleigh we have now have National Guard bringing in ambulances this week.
My Biceps/ Triceps are ripped in half at the top, and the tendons are shredded from front to back on same shoulder. They can’t put it in a sling because of my spine surgery in January, my neck won’t support it. They offered to tape my arm to my body for me??? Just sent me home & told me they’d be in touch as soon as they can operate, just don’t use my arm? I can’t even lift a cup of coffee, and I was doing 50lbs dumbbell curls 3 weeks ago. The situation appears to be getting worse, not better, yet the news is reporting ALL IS BETTER NOW! WTH!

Was told the long wait was from many patients could have been seen by urgent care and/or their PCP. Since it was Sunday, they were closed.

I don’t go to the er unless I absolutely HAVE to. Wait times here are also a nightmare. I was in the Er last time from 1pm til 8am the next day. It sucked.
