Dumb question

Having had u-ic issues for the past nine years or so, plus problems at night when I was younger. I’ve been through the whole medication route, which I stopped last year. I was wearing diapers either way so why add the meds. My question to you guys is, since stopping the meds I haven’t been back to my urologist, if anyone is in the same boat as me how often do you go in if at all for a check up?

I don’t think it is uncommon to not see your specialist anymore if your situation doesn’t change. I haven’t seen my urologist for, i think 4 or 5 years. After the insterstim implant was removed because i didn’t benefit from it she said there was nothing left she could do. Only option would be pain management from a pain clinic.
In the meantime i had several UTI’s that could be treated with AB from my general practitioner. The pain in the region got worse, and i experience bowel incontinence more often. But i don’t see anything my urologist can do for me now. If things do get worse i have to call the hospital again but i am not even sure she works there anymore. My medical record is in good hands there so if i need to i can go back there any time.

Only check up i get is from a continence nurse for my medical supply company. But that is just a formality, i think initiated by health insurance, to see if my diaper needs are still the same.

Thanks for the reply. That makes a lot of sense. My health insurance doesn’t cover any of my supply’s because they’re not considered durable med equip. Although some day when I reach the age for Medicaid, which does offer coverage for diapers, I want to make sure things are documented.

I think it depends on the reason for your incontinence. Sometimes regular check-ups are useful (e.g. if the prostate is affected). Either way - if there is no new therapy and you have no other reasons, there is probably no need for frequent visits.

At the moment I go for a check-up every year, where I also get my annual prescription for my medical aids for my health insurance.
