Duloxetine for stress incontinence

I had my radical prostatectomy via robot in June 2020 I’m managing my incontinence well by way of an external catheter, I have no problems at night ( although I’m up maybe 4 times) and I’m fine while I’m sitting but I leak if I do anything else, my consultant has prescribed Duloxetine but says it doesn’t work for everyone, can I get some feedback from this group as to its effectiveness and side affects

I tried it. Didn’t work, but no significant side effects. 6 mo later I am now trying psuedosynefrine. Don’t have results yet, but it’s not a problem to try it. Physical therapist who specializes in incontinence may help. Also, more time may help along with the PT. Good luck!

Did not work. If your issue is anatomical, only solution is surgical. I finally gave in after 3 years. Sorry I waited so long. You still have catheter one year later? Highly unusual.

Jwai I should explain the external catheter is my own solution because I couldn’t get on with pads etc. I use a silicon cup attached to a catheter bag but only by day and I empty it when I go to the loo, it works for me and allows me to have a near normal life

@Fruitcage

I am at 10 months post prostatectomy. (done kegels, pelvic floor physical therapy, urodynamic testing, and cystoscopy (no scarring).

At 6 months I started Solifenacin (VESIcare) (Over Active Bladder - OAB for stress incontinence) , it reduced my leakage from 30 ounces a day down to 20 ounces a day.

At month 7 I started another OAB medicine for urge incontinence Gemtesa, then switched to Myrbetriq (same class of medicine and my insurance covers). The urge incontinence medicine has not improved my incontinence or only a little.

The below article is way too technical and I had to read several times. For this discussion the summary is that post prostatectomy incontinence is either an external sphincter problem, bladder nerve problem, or both. Duloxetine may help with nerve problems.

I take Duloxetine for depression, motivation, and back pain. It helps with pain everywhere in my body. But it had zero effect on my incontinence, which is caused by spinal cord/vertebral damage.
