doctors visit dread

hi everyone,
I've recently started wearing protection for mild incontinence. I was told on the phone by a nurse that I need to visit a specialist though I need to go to the hospital first(canada healthcare). I am afraid of the reaction of medical personal if I am wearing a diaper. I know I can't let that stop me though. any experience what happens when I go in?

I've never had any medical professional react to the pads I wear. I agree it makes me uncomfortable, or did. Now not so much now as they don't seem to be bothered.

There’s actually a fairly sizable percentage of people who use pads for incontinence issues. Healthcare people see it every day, probably multiple times per day. I suspect they hardly notice.

Brian77, nothing to worry or feel embarrassed about. I can guarantee you medical staff sees some much of it it’s normal to them, some of them are probably wearing pads or diapers themselves.

I say the same. I wear my diapers into doctors appointment all the time. Well, I have to or I will have wet pants. He knows that I have to. I always bring my diaper bag in with me just in case I need to change into a fresh one. No one is going to care that you are wearing a diaper anyways.

Same here. Though it feels kinda uncomfortable or awkward, i have worn a pad or daytime pull-up to the doctors office. I’m comfortable wearing one everyday, so I shouldn’t feel as if I need to change my protection routine just to go to the doctors office.
I always have my pull-up on when I go to the chiropractor or physical therapist.
When I see my urologist I usually wear a pad, because I know an exam is coming. I guess I’m wanting to seem more normal even though he knows I wear a diaper at nighttime.
I guess the answer is do what you’re comfortable with.

Hi Brian77
I know one can feel embarrassed but believe me they seen it all before. I’ve had U-IC problems for over 35 years following a spinal injury and nerve damage and have worn adult nappies/diapers to manage it pretty much ever since. During that time I have had umpteen Dr’s/medical appointments and a number of spinal
Operations, x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, etc. As a rule I always mention that I am incontinent and wear protection and I’ve never had a bad reaction. I’ve quite often had a nurse say ‘Oh dear poor you’ and they are genuinely sympathetic. I also always take a spare nappy with me in case I have to change too. Hope the appointment goes well and don’t worry about it.

There is nothing to worry about. Healthcare professionals have seen it all. I have never encountered anyone who reacted unprofessionally. Not once.

@Brian77

Yep.

Countless times a month doctors see people in Diapers. It is more common than you think.

I was in the waiting room for a urologist appointment and one guy ask if any of us wore diapers.
All 5 of us said yes.
i am 40% service connected for incontinence from fournier's gangrene due to a diabetes medication i was taking for agent orange caused diabetes.
i don't care if doctors or staff know as i am a retired firefighter/EMT and know many wear as they get older.
i am also a life long nudist and really don't carewhat they see.

Hi Everyone - Is any embarrassment about going to doctor appointments wearing diapers stem strictly from the fact that you are a guy? If so, I totally understand. I was not very keen at first showing my Depends at an appointment. But, given years of pelvic exams, pap smears and child birth - wearing Depends in full view should be a walk in the park. Then again I have never had anybody say to me "turn your head and cough" Still, I will not drink anything if I have to go out. Truth be told I purposely don't drink alot anyway just as a matter of course. Not exactly healthy I know, but it is for the obvious reason. - Pam
