Diverculitus after surgery

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. 3.5 months after surgery, everything was going well, I started having excruciating abdominal pain for about 5 days. Couldn't take anymore and went to the ER. CT showed diverculitus with a golf ball sized abcess on my colon. Hospitalized for 3 days on IV antibiotics and a drain tube installed in abcess. Feeling better now but holy crap was that painful!

I had a diverticulosis flare once. In my case it wasn't so bad because I went to the ER at the first sign of pain. They put me on antibiotics and sent me home.

Sence then I have had regular colonoscopies about every 3 years. During my last colonoscopy I had a couple of polyps removed. Colon cancer killed my grandfather, so I have good reason to be extra careful.
