Checking in

Hey all. Ok so I had my surgery and it was not uneventful. I got home around 12:30 and by 1 I was in an ambulance back to the hospital. Lots of blood and my SPC wasn’t draining properly. They put in a foley (ouch) and I left around 7:30pm. There is still a lot of blood in both bags (yea I’ve got 2 catheters. Fun) but they said not to worry about it. Bladder spasms aren’t too bad and the only real pain I have is being uncomfortable with the foley. Trying to drink as much water as I can. Man this has been a trip.

So glad you have checked in with us man. And don't sweat the blood man - I know with anything related to catheterization there is bound to be some...I've had stents put in for kidney stones - and ugh..those are rough.

I hope everything is smooth sailing from here man, and hopefully you will be as good as gold for the future. I know you were really looking forward to this!

I have had blood with catheters myself in the past so I wouldn’t be too nervous about it I’m glad it seems you’re finally getting somewhere hopefully you see some results soon.

Thanks for letting us know what happened to you. I hope that your body calms down soon, and that you have no more "eventful" experiences like this one.

Good to hear from you!! Hope this is the worst of it and the rest are f your recovery is smooth sailing!! Take care and stay in touch

Good to hear from you.

Hopefully the blood will calm down as do the spasms.

Just try and drink loads of fluids to wash your bladder out.

Hi @justej, It's good to hear from you again and sorry to hear about the complications you're having. I hope that this is the worst of it and that you're on the way to a complete recovery soon.
I'm glad the posts up above have said not to sweat the blood too much but if it were me it would cause me some anxiety. I guess that goes with the territory of having that kind of surgery. And hopefully by time you're reading this the blood issue is gone.
Keep up with drinking plenty of water and know we are wishing you a quick recovery and that the procedure marks a real improvement for you.

I, also, had blood in my urine several times following my surgery. It was scary, but my home health nurse told me to drink more water, and it, eventually calmed down. I never felt bladder spasms until I had uti’s, and now it’s one of my first signs I have one. Did your doctor prescribe Hyoscyamine for them? You put it under your tongue, and it works fast to relieve pain. Hang in there, and I hope your body adjusts soon .

Thank you so much everyone. My urine is starting to look better this evening and I’m draining well. I can’t wait to get the foley out though because it is just annoying! I did have an incident today where I had a bladder spasm and peed through my urethra and all over the bed. Thank goodness for mattress protectors! I think I’m on the up and up.

@Beckyd I was prescribed detrol for the spasms. The pharmacy was out of my dose so I have to wait til tomorrow to pick it up.

Well that's good to hear @justej! Just keep pushing the fluids and that should flush you out till you're clean. Did they give you any idea when you'll get the Foley out? And here's hoping that this week will be on the up and up for you! :D:D

@billliveshere the foley comes out on Wednesday thank goodness!!!! I can’t wait. I’ll hopefully get the flip flow valve on Wednesday as well so no more bags! (Except at night)

Also because we have seen it all before I can share here....no more blood!

Well, we'll be around on Wednesday (good Lord willing and creek don't rise) and also be eagerly anticipating your liberation from that Foley. Just take it easy until then and kick back and relax!
