Causes of enuresis

I just had my first episode of nocturnal enuresis. I'm 48 and never experienced it before. No recent surgeries no diabetes and I was wondering if anyone could share what condition they have that could cause this. Going to the doctor is not the solution either. Been there done that and still there with other health issues. I am fully aware that someones health condition may not be mine but having incompetent doctors tell you abnormal test results is normal is not the solution.

Hi Huey,
Sorry to hear you are experiencing some troubles with that. Guess allot of things can cause it. Sometimes people’s systems change and when they are laying down all the fluid that was stuck in their legs can cause more urine production at night. Other times it can be sleep apnea or exhaustion, stress...uti’s or prostatic is. It can be a ton of different things that cause it. What is you doc saying? Has anything changed in your daily meds or daily routine that could suggest a reason? I’m sure there is a reason and some type of solution.
Definitely get a pack of disposable underpads. They will save your mattress and if you didn’t have a mattress protector, try nature’s miracle. Walmart pet isle. We use it and it is excellent.
I deal with this too, going to see my urologist on Monday.

@HueyHuckabee Hi. As @jrpoorman said there are a lot oa reasons for bedwetting.

If you only just had the one incident of bedwetting then I would not worry too much. Maybe you has some extra stress or over tired that caused it.

If it happens again and seems to continue for anything like once a month or few times a week then at least talk to a doctor about it. They are not all bad. As to other conditions. For me it is primarily deep deep sleep. That in itself doesn't not automatically mean I will wet the bed. but add in a low production of a hormone that is produced when sleeping that reduces the amount of urine produced during the night then I might have a bedwetting incident.

For me, my bedwetting is not on a set pattern. It can be anywhere from 1-2 times a month or less to other times where it is once a week for a few weeks.

Hang in there. you are not alone in this. Hopefully it was just that one wet night and you will never have another one.

Yes there are a lot of reasons for bedwetting.and it can be a little scary when it first starts and the more it happens the more concerned you get now me yes I do wet in my sleep but I have daytime issues as well but you do learn how to manage and take it in stride and live with it and you should always see your doctor when you start having wetting issues as the wetting could be a symptom of a more severe issue so make sure you consult with your doctor to rule out any other health issues

If I could find a doctor that would do their job or could find one that is competent then I would agree with you however I do not agree due to my results with so called "professionals". That being said what has been your results by consulting with a doctor ? Diagnosis ? progress ? resolution ? medication that is actually effective ? etc...

@Jaytee thanks for the information. I appreciate you sharing your experience / situation. As for the incompetent doctors in our country I do agree they are not all bad however based on my experience and my family and friends AND first time conversations with complete strangers. I put the ratio somewhere around 10 % good / 90 % incompetent.

Hi Huey,
Mine in neurogenic bladder / OAB. I am going back to a new urologist in the morning though. I have a bad uti that I have been fighting for about a month now. Hoping for some more insight from him although we will see. Last experience with a cystoscope wasn’t a pleasant one. Hoping there will be a pain free option...lol
Like allot of folks I wet at night and now during the day too.
There are so many great products finally on the market it’s manageable but it’s gotten worse over the years.
I found the Megamax briefs with a booster liner sold by Northshore to do the trick at night most nights. I have to wear a pull-up and catheter during the day or a full diaper. I love the work I do so I just make the best of the situation and get on with life. The mattress covers that you put over the whole mattress are made out of a bunch of different materials. You will probably find it’s worth spending a few extra dollars and get one made with PUL material. It’s much cooler and breathable. Follow the washing and drying tag though and it should last a really long time. 😊
So what’s going on with you? Everyone here for the most part has a condition of some time that affects their control over their bladder or bowel control. Hope you will find the information here useful. Allot of great folks here. I enjoy learning, listening and helping folks too. Hope you find a few folks you can become friends with too. Nice to have someone you can talk with about this condition. Sure makes life easier, at least for me.
