Caffeine and post RP

I am a year out from my RP and despite regular kegels and cardio exercise my incontinence seems to have plateaued at 3 to 4 pads in a 24 hour period, I drink lots of water, 6 to 8 glasses a day and have cut back my alcohol intake to two drinks a week. Has anyone completely eliminated caffeine from their diet, coffee and tea (I don't drink soda) and did your incontinence improve?

Thanks!

I drink two cups of coffee per day, alcohol 1 beer per week, virtually no soda, and about 6 glasses of water. Taking a water pill makes me pee often, lasting up to six hours.

GMguy,

I cut all caffeine out of my diet around month 10 post RP. It helped some, but not enough to say I didn’t leak.

Slowly I came to the realization that I had to adjust to a new normal. That new normal had to be a balance between quality of life and quantity of life.

I now accept that 1 to 2 pads a day allows me to drink a cup or two of coffee in the morning and have a beer, or a wine, or a mixed drink each evening.

I rarely drink carbonated beverages or other drinks with high caffeine.

I am physically active and have adjusted my life style to accommodate things I like (coffee and liquor) in moderation.

Enjoying life means more to me than being totally dry.

After my AUS (Artificial Urinary Sphincter) was implanted and activated, I eat and drink what I want……..almost like a regular guy. This is after incontinence to the point of 5 pads a day.

At 10 months, I was leaking 16 ounces a day. I was drinking 16 ounces of coffee a day. The male urethra sling surgery made a big positive change in my life.

I did all of the test. It was not what I was or was not drinking. My problem was the sphincter. I choose to have the male urethra sling surgery in Sept 2021. On September 14, 2022 - I will be one year. I leak about a quarter of an ounce (8 ml) per night - I am a side sleeper.
