Anyone have experience with oxybutynin for OAB

Happy New Years! I finally saw a urologist on the 26th of last month. She prescribed me oxybutynin and I’ll be following up later this month.
So far, no changes (I’m aware it takes 3-4 weeks to have any changes) but I’m experiencing a lot of side effects (nausea, dizziness, anxiety, headaches, etc). I did ask about side effects prior, and she said there is another medication that has less side effects but my insurance doesn’t cover that one. :( I also have a appointment for a uro-gyn for March, though I’m not sure what questions to ask them or how it’s any different than a urologist.
My urologist also stated that if the medication didn’t work, they’ll check my bladder with a camera? (I forgot the term for it). I’m nervous as she stated it’s possible that it could be something neurological.
Anyway, has anyone taken Oxybutnin and experienced side effects? How long did it take for you to adjust? I’m trying to decide if I should white knuckle it and keep on it another week.

I've been thinking of trying this med for overactive bladder. Have tried everything. I was successful with PTNS for a year and then it stopped working. Dr suggested botox and I really don't want to try that. I have a bad reaction to a lot of drugs that's why I hesitate to try this. I've had this problem for years and I would have good and bad days. Now I just have bad days. Any advice re this drug would be appreciated.1q

I had more side effects than success with oxybutynin. I am currently on Myrbetriq. Not perfect, but more tolerable

I tired it. Terrible head aches. If I recall this one also made my mouth severely dry so I was constantly drinking water.

Dry mouth was horrible Oxybutynin gave me headaches did nothing to help my bladder Myrbetriq did nothing to help my bladder either after a year and a half of flooding myself while asleep at night I am set up to see a Urologist 3-2-20 we shall see, 3 surgeries later no relief and I refuse Botox

Sorry to see a lot of you had lousy experience with oxybutynin. :( I might ask about alternatives the next time I see her, though I’m reluctant.
My body tends to be sensitive to side effects, so i was hoping it was just my body overreacting again and that it would calm down eventually.
I hate the dry mouth feeling but the worst of it is the nausea/dizziness for me. I haven’t even really been able to get out of bed today.
In any case, thanks for the feed back and best wishes to everyone :)

oxybutynin did not work at all for me but no side effects either. Myrbetriq (mirabegron) caused muscle, joint and tendon pain. it is now listed as a med i’m alergic to though i don’t know that pain is actually an alergic reaction. i won’t use either again. i also think i wont use any med or surgery. i’m managing ok with wearing pullups when i go out that handle the incontinence problems very well.

oh yes! thanks! ...and a very happy new year to you too... hoping you find a satisfactory solution.

I've been taking it for a few months and had pretty good results. Less urgency, less leakage. The dry mouth was pretty bad for the first month, now it's not so bad.

It took a few weeks to get the timing down to where it was most effective as it seems to take a few hours to really kick in and doesn't seem to last more than 8 hours or so.

The trade offis worth it to me, especially after the dry mouth lessened.

I guess the point here is, do not feel alone or worse, like you are alone in not getting a complete incontinence relief from a pill.
It would be so nice to say there is a pill that fixes every thing, a treatment or a test that makes it sll go away but this condition, its simply not that simple.
So be kind and forgive yourself.

@Maymay941 Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it. :) I always feel angry at myself for the bad days, where I function less than I’d hope to due to this and other things.
I guess I know there’s no cure all, but I’ll keep my best trying to learn how to better manage things. Thanks again and to everyone on this forum! :)

It seems that everyone responds to the bladder medications differently. To find what might work for you is a matter of trial and error. The oxybutynin worked somewhat for me. It made me a little less wet, but it made me tired and hard to get through the day without a nap. Also, dizziness. I didn't like it.
I also tried Myrbetriq. That one was more expensive and didn't work for me.
I went to a new doctor, and he has me trying the generic of vesicare. Too soon to tell what that one is going to do to me.

This was the first med i tried. Had slight improvement in symptoms but side effects were too much for me. I think i went from wetting the bed 5 to 7 nights a week to 4ish and had a fewer daytime accidents but nowhere near effective enough to get out of diapers day or night. It gave me crazy dry mouth and headaches. I stopped it after really tring for about 3 weeks.

I am currently using oxybutinin and have for years. I habe Noticed vision and dry mouth issues at times. It does help with bladder spasms though. Will be doing Botox injections in a couple weeks. Hope that helps better.

Tried it, doesn't do anything. Waste of time. Just a way for the doctors and big pharma to make more money.

Oxybutinin is one of several drugs that my urologist has tried in an effort to find something that would help to reduce my urge incontinence. It comes in two forms: pills and a skin patch. The pills produced very unpleasant side effects and had little or no effect on my incontinence. The skin patch produced much mor manageable side effects but also had very little effect on my incontinence.

I've been on Oxybuyntin for over 20 years and over time seemed to work less and less so my Urologist had me try Trospium but it worked less than the Oxybuyntin.
If your incontinence is due neurological damage (spinal injury) it should help but the side effects are tough to manage.
Besides the constant dry mouth/eyes the wife said it also made me very irritable.

My concern is loss of cognitive clarity in seniors especially. My mother in her late 70s was clearly not benefitted but had less mental clarity when on this but that improved when she stopped it. It did not help her incontinence noticably or enough to warrant use
