Hi all,

I'm under 40 and I've been dealing with dribbling/PMD during the day for a long time, but recently I've noticed what appear to be occasional urine stains on my bed, (yellow stains about the size of the palm of my hand) I've never seen this before, and the colour of the stains leads me to believe it's urine, as opposed to sweat-- but could it actually be sweat? Am I getting ahead of myself?

These are not what appear to be full voids, and don't happen every day, but all the same I'm getting some tests done with the doctor to rule out anything serious with the prostate, etc.

I just wanted to know if anyone has experienced something similar to these symptoms, as opposed to full on bladder releases.

Thx!

@Cheers Welcome! I’m glad you’re posting. We’ll help you here ✌🏻

Have you tried smelling the spots on your sheets? Urine stains are usually light yellow, while sweat is clear and can’t be seen once it’s dry. Urine varies in smell even from the same person.

I’m 44 now. When I was 39, I fell down a cliff while expert snowboarding and severed most of the nerves between my bladder and brain, and shredded all of my lumbar discs.

Two months after that fall, that’s how my bedwetting started, too - as a palm-sized yellow/wet spot on my sheets, every couple of weeks. By the end of the next month, I had a 1-2 foot wide circle every couple of nights. Then the next month it was every night, which gradually increased in frequency and quantity through the nine-month mark. By then I was on the bladder medication Ditropan, yet still wetting through diapers several times per night. Additionally, I developed problems during the day. I have OAB, stress incontinence, intense urges, and bladder spasms 24/7. By ten months, I no longer had any bladder control when I’m horizontal - on the bed, on the couch, on the floor, in yoga, etc. It takes a while for severed nerves to fully die; hence the 9-10 months for my bladder problems to max out. My final diagnosis became Neurogenic Bladder and I’ve had zero improvement since, in the past 4.25 years.

Did you have a recent injury recently, particularly to your lumbar spine or pelvis? Car accident? Any chance you have a hernia?

I recommend trying a Depends pull-up (s’ils at any grocery store; bury it under a big cart of groceries if you feel shy about buying them) at night to see if it’s wet by the morning, and your sheets are no longer wet/stained. That will tell you if the stain is urine. That’s also easier and more affordable than seeing a Urologist.

If you do learn that it’s urine, then I think you’d better see a Urologist. Don’t waste your time with your primary care physician; they don’t know or do much.

I’m female and though I’ve had several live-in boyfriends and an ex-husband, I can’t remember what semen looks like on sheets? Guys, what are your thoughts about this possibility?

Hope this helps; keep us posted! We all learn from one another here!

Hey @Snow thanks for the welcome!

I'm sorry to hear about your injury, that sounds really painful! I'm lucky in that I seem to be a healthy, active individual- however my post void dribbling issues have increased this year, so I'm wondering if this bed-wetting (if that is indeed what it is) is a prostate related issue.

I do sweat at night, but when I wake up I usually just feel a damp area and see no visible stain, this is why I'm surprised by these yellow ones. But apparently sweat stains can be yellow too? So I'm a little confused. ;)

I’m not sure if it could be prostate related - some guys here will soon respond to you about that. Most of the members on this forum are male, and most have bladder problems because of prostate problems. So we’ll soon learn what they Have to say. Until then, have a great evening!

Hi @Cheers, and welcome to the forum. It's good you can confide in us as everybody will help in any way they can. I hate to tell you but I don't think those are sweat stains you're experiencing. If it's been hot where you are lately, I would think sweat would be more widespread and not just in that one particular area in bed, or just the size of the palm of your hand. Maybe when you get up to "go" during the night you could be having drainage from your bladder after a few minutes when you get back in bed? These post-urination dribbles do happen to me as well, day and night. Or maybe a bladder infection. Does it burn when you go?
But you are wise to check it out with the doctor. If the doctor mentions prostate ask if he or she thinks you need a PSA test. If that happens, when you get the results, the lower the number the better. If it's one-point something that's good but if it's around three-point something then it needs to be looked into even more. Do have a good night and if you have any questions or just want to vent please come "see" us!

Hi @Pmikula, you're right, only men are tested for PSA. That's prostate specific antigen. I've had it done along with other routine blood work. Normally it's done once a year. I think I'm due for my next one before the end of the year.

Yeah it’s probably urine. Usually people don’t start wetting without an underlying reason. Were you wet as a kid? It can come back. Did you hurt yourself or have some kind of illness or other new sensations or symptoms of anything?

Snow, they look like snail trails from memory, back in my "youth".

Welcome Cheers and hope they find something which can be easily treated. Incontinence is not always straight forward in regards finding a solution so bear with it while medical professionals find the right solution for you. Do you get up in the night to go to the toilet?

@Cheers Welcome! Your issues sound very similar to mine. It could be that you're leaking more than you think as whilst I'd assumed I just leak after each trip to the toilet, I've noticed some leakage before as well. Plus, if you're getting up at night to urinate then the dribbles may inevitably end up on your sheets. It's why I started wearing protection to bed as I get up at least twice a night.
