Itapilot how is your experience with pain or lifestyle adjustment? I know another member who has been considering the process and it's a big decision

I don't think I worded that very well. Mine is still a month in the future, scheduled for October 20.

I've been warned to expect a fair bit of pain since I'm getting what is sometimes referred to as a "Barbie butt," where my anal sphincter muscles will get removed along with all of my colon. That's a hard spot to get to heal, and the muscles that run through that area are used more than you'd think. I'll also be unable to sit down for weeks.

The actual ileostomy doesn't worry me as much. I've known for many years that it would eventually get to this point, and I'm well aware of how much my ulcerative colitis has limited my life. I'm not looking forward to all the bag changes, skin problems, leaks, and general hassle of an ostomy, but in a lot of ways I think it'll be less of a problem than having UC. Besides, incontinence has already gotten me used to always having supplies with me, and adding a few spare bags and wafers to my kit isn't that big of a deal.

I may feel differently this time next month, though. I'll have to let you know then.

Tsa pre check has been a huge plus in avoiding those full body scanners that always get me full pat down checks. The problem I’ve run into however is when the tsa pre heck is closed which has happened to me many times in various airports. I’ve only had to show my diaper once and clearly that guy was for more embarrassed, and apologetic.
I really can’t take the chance of going through security without a diaper on as wet pants would be very embarrassing for me. When I’m faced with the additional pat down now I do like many of you I just tell him I’m wearing a diaper and that always works. After all when will you ever see that guy again? And even so a necessary piece of clothing is nothing to be ashamed of. Family and friends have always been nothing but supportive regarding my diaper needs.
