Afraid to take new medication

My urologist has given me a prescription for OXYBUTYNIN. I have looked up the side effects for this and to be honest I'm afraid to take this. I'm not really sure if going to a doctor to stop me from having accidents is worth it. He already has me on Flomax and wants me to take both of these at the same time. What is this going to do to my kidneys and liver? (I also take other medications)

I think the main reason I went to the doctor was to make sure there wasn't something serious going on like prostate cancer or something. I did a blood test and they did something else I think and I think that has been ruled out. Is it really worth taking all of this?

I just don't think medication is going to stop me from having incontinence problems. Also all the doctor will say is OK don't take the medication, good-bye.

That Oxybutynin stuff is serious. I don't want that stuff.

I would just wear a diaper and diapers are nothing to be ashamed of ! I usually get the abdl diapers and they are so comfortable!

Also I was ashamed at the doctors office when the nurse did some kind of scan of my bladder and tucked a cloth under my diaper. That was really bad. She told me to get up on the table and it happened so fast I didn't know what to do. Yes I was very embarrassed.

Go with the new doctor if there is one (I'm where the choice is one, take it or leave it.) The doctor is supposed to have a responsibility to explain side-effects, or turn that over to his/her knowledgable nurse. (Would you like to talk to the doctor, or the nurse who knows what a patient needs?) I do read the literature: for side effects, the percent of patients who actually experience them, and Interactions with other drugs. In advance, go to Drugs.com and look it up. There are probably other web resources, like the governments PubMed data base of thescientic articles. Get there with Google Science, and NOT Google. Got a GP? A GIM? Ask for help. At the very least, they can point you to the right person. Make SURE you ask about the liver issue. Good Luck!

A lot of people have been prescribed one medication after another, all to no avail. Some of these drugs work for some people but not for others. All of them, though, have potential side effects. No one should take any medication without knowing everything about it. I have side stepped taking any of them because I have had to wear incontinence products since a head injury when I was 28, & the post concussion symptoms are the ones the medications are going to give me, so I don't need anything to make it all worse. I'm okay with wearing diapers because I have problems from the injury that are worse than losing control of my bladder, especially when there's a management system already in place. As well, the people around me knew I was wearing protection before I did. I will say that some of those same individuals have been surprised that I still have this problem so many years after the fact, but that's life I guess.
