Advice wanted-personal recommendations

I wanted to ask opinions or get suggestions if anyone wants to chime in. Normally my leaks aren't bad but yesterday I filled up the heaviest incontinence pad at work and it leaked, thankfully nobody noticed. I am considering switching to pullups only at work from now on because its very unpredictable.

I have days where I can get away with a moderate pad, but more often I prefer heavier protection. I know my urologist mentioned my bladder or kidneys fill too quickly and my body can't keep up well. Would you just switch to pullups in this case, even though you may or may not need them? Thanks for the advice/input. I am considering wearing them after shower/pre-bedtime to next day before shower. At night leaks are more dribbles or smaller *probably shot glass amount if I had to guess, could be slightly more*

So I am going to ask a question that I may be ridiculed by others for asking. While you are at work, do you have the opportunity to go to the restroom frequently? I know we are told to retrain our bladder for longer periods, but where you are making larger amounts of urine it may help to make more frequent visits to the restroom. (That is if you are not already doing this.) Doing this may reduce your leaks to levels manageable by a pad. There is certainly nothing wrong with using whatever you have to use to avoid leaks whether it be a pad, pull up, or diaper. I tend think on the side of getting by with less when possible, but certainly wouldn’t want anyone to end up in an embarrassing situation because of one of my suggestions.

I too have leaked beyond the capacity of my pad at work and fortunately I don’t think anyone noticed.

Best of luck.

I hope no one ridicules you, to answer your question I try to, but my current job isn't the best fit. I mainly cashier so realistically, Im not always able to go when my brain has the urge. The irony is most times I can make it into the bathroom but when Im able to lock the door behind me, my bladder just leaks. Ive also had smaller leaks while working out on the sales floor. I have tried to let my work know about my issues but I am also going to end up seeking a new job because they are very bad at listening.

I used Depends pull up the first 5 months and started at 6 7 pads a day till 1 or 2 in the 5th month. Easy to change, but if your out, do bring something to lay on a public bathroom floor. I'm 8 1/2 months post surgery and can get away with no pads. Some days if I leak a little and going out, I will use a pad just in case.

Sorry to hear your situation is like that at work. Some people simply do not understand. I sincerely hope you find a solution and another place of employment if you desire and need another.

This is a no brainer for me. Use the pull ups until you gain better bladder control. Our recovery is more like a marathon than a quick win sprint.

I like some of the others suggestions about more frequent bathroom breaks but that is a variable you can’t control. Using pull ups is something you can.

My personal view is that switching from pads to pull-ups may not help as much as you would think.
Pull-ups are easy to drop if you can make it to the toilet. But if you need to change at work they can be a real problem, at least that's been my experience. After ripping the sides to remove the wet pull-up I've had to remove my pants completely to get a fresh pair on, which is really tough in a tiny toilet cubicle (and wriggling around in a cramped space is just the time that leaks can happen).
Of course if you are female and can wear a dress this may not be such a problem.
Also I'm not aware that pull-ups are any more absorbent than the largest of the slip-type pads. I have tried pull-ups in the past and have had leaks. I've had plenty of leaks with pads too.
In summary, and for me, the extra cost of pull-ups just doesn't translate into either improved protection or extra convenience.
I think finding a job where you have more reliable access to a toilet - and more understanding managers - is the way to go. I hope you find youself in a better place soon.

Hard to say what to do, try different things. Pull ups are harder to change than pads. Are there are surgeries or other stuff they can do to find out why it fills up so fast. This is too hard for you to live with. We need a president to have an issue so they can put some money into helping to solve our issues. Blessings Maybe check out some different doctors-maybe even a neurologist. Maybe write or search on line for a school that does research in this type of thing. Enough to keep you busy which may aid in giving your life a purpose. Blessings and try to stay dry. I know you are frustrated-we all are, good luck -look for some different doctors and get some different opinions. One neve knows.

Thank you everyone for your input. After today I will just switch to pullups, I am fortunate enough we have a 1 stall bigger bathroom/employee bathroom at work. There could be something neurologically going on so thats my next step is a deeper investigation. This has come and gone before so time will tell, but if I find out anything I will post.

Thanks, I am having some tests on the 19th of August at the neurologist office to test the nerves in my body and my brain. I had a brain tumor and there is some lack of communication going on here for sure.

My view is that I need enough protection at any time to handle the largest leak that I might reasonably have. That means that I have more protection than required for the average day, but I have the confidence of knowing that I'm unlikely to have a leak even if it's a particularly bad day. Nobody notices my incontinence protection, but they'll notice wet spots from leaks.

In my mind, it's false economy to wear a pad that's too thin and might leak. I wear protection so that I don't have to worry about wet clothes, so if I worry I'm not getting the full benefit of my protection.

Tape-on products, as others have noted, are far easier to change them pull-ups. The trick is to get past the stigma of wearing an adult diaper - once you work past that hurdle, they make a lot of sense.

@Koigal I definitely recommend pull-ups, and see no reason why you’d need a floor pad. I change mine standing up/sitting down, one leg at a time, whether I’m wearing pants or a skirt. I’m female.

Hi @Koigal, I think pull-ups will be the way to go!!! There are so many out on the market now and if you can, get samples of several brands and absorbencies. From personal experience there are days when you'll need a lighter absorbency and days when something of more absorbency will be better. But since you're out on the floor at work, it would be wise to wear a pull-up that is discreet but will protect just in case you don't quite make it to the bathroom.
That said you may try a store brand or something like Depend or Always. They may have adequate absorbency and comfort, or there are many companies on line that can supply you with something more substantial. Most of them have an 800-nuember and helpful advisors on the other side of your phone line! Most can send out samples and that way you can determine what works best for you.
There have been suggestions here for the tape-on style (like an adult diaper) which if changing during work is a challenge, may be more convenient.
I hope you find something satisfactory soon but even more, I hope you find a place where the managers etc., are more understanding and sympathetic of personal needs. You, along with all of us here, don't deserve anything less than understanding and cooperation on the part of a place of employment!! Please keep us posted on what happens!

I think a Depend pull-up would be plenty for you, and they are the slimmest. If you’re female, check out their Silhouettes line.

Hi,Teddy here, first of all if you don't mind asking what kind of exercises are you doing and are you a smoker and a drinker? Also are you drinking coke, pepsi etc..After your answer I might be able to help you
and for Barbara Drabek may God bless you, take care all

Afternoon Teddy. I am not a drinker or smoker. I am trying to get off soda and do occasionally indulge in a coke or dr pepper early morning. This all stemmed from a bladder surgery.

I have visited 2 different Pelvic Floor therapists with little success. One seemed to imply it couldn't really be fixed if I recall correctly. Kegels make me leak worse interestingly so I do not really do them anymore. From what I've noticed it might be a neuro thing because I have some neurological/Sensory Processing issues that are undiagnosed currently. What does seemingly work is timed voiding and sticking to pullups.

Hi Koigal,I was doing Kegel exercises also and for me it did help me a lot,I was doing Kegels floor exercises and it really works.I was doing 60 floor exercises and the easy ones I was doing about 240.Now my specialist told me that doing 300 a day is much too much,he advised me to do about 45 a day.Too much exercises will makeyour vessels too lazy. The easy exercises are the one that you try to pull in your penis and old it for 10 seconds. You could do this as you are standing, sitting or even walking.I was operated on the 28th. October 2020 and the first 2 months I was going through 8 heavy diapers a day.Two months later I go through 1 tena mens pad a day and I could use my pad for 2 days but I don't,I change it every night after my bath.At night I don't wear anything. If you are drinking orange juice or other juices that are acid take it with half water and half juice.Coke and dr. pepper is too early in the morning too take, don't forget our vessels are very delicate so we have to take care of them.Take care.

Hi @snow. Wow, I'm impressed. You have skills!
I'd love to know how to get a fresh pull-up on without removing my pants.
How do you do it? Can you explain your technique?
