Why did I do it?

Last night I had been out with my mates and had a couple of guns but when I got home I felt a bit low as my continence issues had not got any better over the last few weeks. I decided to have another gin then another and stayed up until 3.30 in the morning. Why did I do that is what I am thinking today as I know it will only make it worse. Today I am regretting what I did as I have had very little in the last few months since my prostate operation. I am however back on my positive journey now I have had my blow out. Has this happened to anyone else before?

I’m sure all of us in this forum, whatever our circumstances are, have gotten discouraged to some degree about our individual progress, or lack thereof. We have to find what is inside of us to gather strength and push through any set backs. It’s progress, not perfection that we should pursue. Perfection doesn’t exist in this particular battle. Stay strong.

The question is what am I going to do about I?
You can drink alot of water get walking briskly and do the excecises.
Beating your self
up of a body function not condusive to happiness

Don’t beat yourself up since all of us slip up and do things we wish we had not. These are things none of us wants or frankly deserves. Just start again.

Yes, that has happened to me several times in the seven weeks since surgery. I am nearly continent now but still have a way to go. One thing I discovered quickly is that alcohol and continence to not mix. This is my routine:

1. Follow the YouTube video 6x/day: Kegels for Men - REAL TIME Daily Kegels WORKOUT. Michell Kenway has a very supportive and effective approach that I never get tired of. The time clock helps.

2. Walk briskly 6 miles; 3 days/week. I am working my way back to 6 days/week which is what I was doing prior to surgery. HUGE improvement once I incorporated these walks rather than relying on Kegels alone.

3. I had a few glasses of wine with dinner one night and wet the bed later that night.Even one glass of wine or beer is problematic for me. Bottom line is any amount of alcohol is counter-productive for my recovery so I just quit for now. Marijuana might be nice alternative. I'm considering it.

Best of luck. Try to stay positive!

Thank you for your support and the exercise link as well as the advice on exercise in general. I have had a shocking hangover today and I deserve it. Tomorrow I am back on it and playing golf for the first time since my operation. Thanks all

Steveg: You are still missing your "old" or "former" life, and you want to hang onto it, even when it hurts you. Work on making your new life and finding new pleasures. Take my advice. I sometimes don't!

I cannot have alcohol because of my medications, but a couple of times this summer, I had a very small and "unstiff" G&T on the patio with my husband and another couple that I love dearly. I think just the tonic water and lime with a splash of gin (so I could smell it} made me happy and helped me reclaim some of my old life.

Do your buddies know what you are enduring? I'm in a wheelchair, so part of my problems are obvious. Good buddies can help you get through this. But you need to think of how to avoid taking on too much that can hurt you. Going out to drink is probably a bad idea if you really like beer and liquor. If you can handle just a little, nurse that beer or drink all night! Or develop a taste for a soft drink!

I have been wondering whether walking might be beneficial or not? I walked 5 miles fast 4 or 5 days per week prior to surgery.I am 7 1/2 weeks post surgery, 5 weeks post catheter. I started trying walking a week ago. 1st day one mile with minimal leakage. The next day 3 miles with major leakage throughout. Took a break for a couple of days and today did 1 mile gushing the whole way.
Should I keep it up? Back off?
Anyone have experience with this ?
70 yrs.
