What's one thing you wish incontinence products did better?

I’m happy with them looking ‘meducal’ after all incontinence is a medical issue. I’m not sure I’d be happy in an adult nappy that had prints on it.
What I would like to see is better anatomical design. Do any of the people who design/make these things actually wear them? All too often I find that the rear of the diaper/nappy does not come up high enough onto the waist, so they don’t stay up. Better leak guards too.

I would join my two previous speakers, and make the following list:

  • Better ergonomics. Many products are not designed for mobile people and cut too high or do not take into account the thigh size sufficiently. There is a lack of better designs, e.g. for wheelchair users or people with predominantly sedentary activity.

  • Better fluid distribution. There are already approaches with improved superabsorber and pipes - but that can certainly be even better. If the liquid is better distributed, the products can also become thinner.

  • Better thermal properties. Many products do not dissipate the body heat sufficiently, which then promotes skin irritations. This also includes better breathability, which only exists on paper for many products

  • Higher quality in production: Many products "lose" small amounts of superabsorbent, which is then found on the skin and is difficult to remove. The same applies to closures that tear open the foil when reopened, wearing out hip belts and sharp-edged superabsorbers or adhesive residues between the film and the fibre.

  • Better environmental compatibility. Keywords here are in particular the use of renewable and compostable materials, climate-neutral production, FSC certification...

  • Better protection against toxic residues: e.g. oekoTex Standard. There is currently no uniform international standard here - which leads to very different qualities in different countries.
