My 18 yo daughter has suffered from nighttime bedwetting for years. Urologist say nothing wrong upon exam - last visit about 3 years. Desmopressin never really helped. She is horrified she did not grow out of it. Going to take her to urologist again - adult one. Have any other meds helped anyone ?

Hi Viv,

I can't speak for meds; because I'm on a medication that is for daytime enuresis and bladder spasms.

I would recommend reaching out to the bedwetting treatment center in Farmington hills, Michigan. I would still encourage someone to still visit a urologist - sometimes there's an underlying medical concern.

I would still look for alternatives online like the BTC - you can talk to them with no shame. They are very kind.

Take care!

The bedwetting treatment center is very expensive upwards of 2000.00, and not guaranteed, although they claim to have a money back guarantee. Meds only work with continued use, and issues will return when discontinued. See a specialist dealing with adult incontinence, they have the best answers.

Incontinence is kinda individual. What works for one may not work for others. Your mileage may vary kinda thing. Best to talk to a urologist. And for her sake get her something to wear at night. I know no 18 year old wants to wear a diaper but it will save you money in mattresses and laundry. Reach out to Northshore care ( http://www.northshorecare.com ) they have great products and customer service. Have her reach out to others her age who deal with bed wetting online. It’s anonymous and she can see she is not the only one. Good luck.

What EJ said.

My Urologist when I was a kid tried every medication on me. Swore up and down to my parents that I would outgrow it or some medication would work. Then when it didn't start treating me like it was due to depression/anxiety and started with drugs for that. I put a stop to it at 18 and never went back to see a urologist until last year. I have been dealing with this for over twenty years and even my now urologist seems to think that she can cure this if she could get me on medication (She cannot give me anything due to side effects that would hurt my current issues so)
The biggest thing is realizing that sometimes doctors don't know why.

I have said for years that after I had a major concussion after a bike accident that I was not the same.

My current urologist said that I might have some brain damage that made it that way and truly listed when I said that I am far past worrying about my bedwetting and more worried about all the daytime issues I have had since 2020.

The truth is once your kid gets over the idea of having to where something to bed life will get easier.

Another thought: She could be evaluated and possibly treated by a Pelvic Floor Therapist. They can help her in a number of ways, dependent upon her condition. Learning to sense and respond to messages, establishing a strong brain/body connection, and there are some ways to help her that might or might not involve drugs.

The therapist I had was excellent, very supportive and thoughtful about what she was doing and how she was working with me; and she helped me gain better control and possibly headed off problems when my gradual paralysis spread to my waist. You want to see someone who is experienced and top-notch, not just someone who will randomly hook you up to a machine that gives bio-feedback. Also, there are uro-gynecologists that you might consult. Whatever you choose, I would recommend a thorough evaluation by someone with expertise--not just any urologist. It might save you more searches/visits in the long run. Good luck! I can only imagine how much you want to help her gain control at night.
