Well that was the worst test I have had yet Defecography MRI

For starters, the test took over an hour longer than expected because things did not go well. We had to stop partway through adding the bromine compound to my anus because I almost passed out when the applicator hit a spot (Likely Puborectalis where I have hypersensitivity) Also it took a lot longer for the compound to get to where it should have by natural means. (Like that part should take 15 minutes and it took almost 40) And then came time to push the stuff out (After 15 minutes they had me change position and try again. After 20 minutes more they felt that they had enough reason to stop the test and told me that I had a problem. They got enough with the MRI to show what was and wasn't working so they left me go. Now I just have to stay away from airports until all this junk comes out. All and all it was both painful and not fun but show a lot of the reasons that I have all the issues that I do.

Now to wait for the final reading and then calling my Doctors to figure out what is next.

I have not heard of this test before... What does it show that a colonoscopy doesn't show???

It shows all of the internal muscles and the structure and what is going on inside. Because it's done with MRI it is also live so that they can see everything.

Sorry to hear it was such a tough day... Hopefully they will be able too diagnose the issue with the results today and treatment goes well.

Okay, Update.

No results today. That means there were issues, which I already knew that there were.

The test itself is an MRI with a barium substance injected into the rectum (Like a gel) Which you then are asked to push out after 15 minutes (40 in my case). The pushing part is normally a few minutes but took me another 30 minutes.

Online says that the test looks for all types of issues with the bowel, rectum, and muscles that work the bowel. We already knew going in from other tests that I have issues with those areas.

I am not shocked to not have results today as the tester told me that if there were things that had to be looked at by higher-ups then it could take a day or two. (I will call in the morning)

If you see my latest post understand that I have been to 56 doctor's appointments in the past 18 months due to all of this (Really is in the past 14 months but the hospital website breaks it down differently) So yea, life has be crazy.

I too had this test to try and see why I have bowel incontinence. No it is not fun. I too could not expel the gel when told I could. It does take a couple of days to get the results. The radiologist needs to review the test. I was seeing a Urogynecologist who ordered this test and another (balloon test) to test sphincter function. I am in the process of trying an Interstim implant.

Hi FlGuy, I'm sorry to hear you had a rough day of it. But if in the long run the test tells you something definitive then that would be a big plus!!!!
So wishing you the best and hope you recover well from that test!

Well, still no results and I did not feel well enough to get up early this morning and do anything. On Monday I go back to physical therapy and I am hopeful to have more answers by then.

@debvollmer.

I never had the balloon test because my physical therapist was worried about the hypersensitivity that I have. Which came up during the test yesterday.

After the results are done I hope that my medical team will have an idea of what to do next. Pain is still a very big factor that has not been dealt with in any meaningful way so that I going to be a big thing this coming month.

And then the doctors will have to figure out any other tests/ procedures that can be done.

Results are in, Just the technical stuff. I will have to call in the morning to find out what it all means because I don't understand it at all.
