Two months post robotic prosthetic surgery

Two months post robotic prosthetic surgery still incontinent and with no control. It is frustrating and raises concerns as to whether this will ever end particularly that I am older. I am very active usually both travel exercise and working outside in my large garden. There definitely are changes in all of the above although I continue to exercise do kegels and hope for a positive outcome. I find these posts interesting and encouraging but most of the individuals appear to be somewhat younger in their 50s 60s and early 70s which may account for an progress more rapidly. I look forward to some thoughts specially from older men who have been through radical prostatectomy and how long it took for them to regain Bladder control. I am told by my urologist that it often takes up to a year and that no surgical procedure is done until a year following surgery namely the sling procedure or some of the others mentioned in these posts.Appreciate helpful thoughts and experiences

I'm 72.Had surgery 6 months ago, with little progress for 3 months. Then, steady progress. I'm about 90% of the way back. I'll give you the advice that everyone else will give: Have patience, stay positive, do your exercises. 2 months out is way too soon to worry!

I'll agree with bonaquist. I'm 68, and saw little progress at two months. Over the course of my 3rd month, I saw definite progress. I'm now at 4 months and leak about 2 oz. a day. As he said, do your exercises, but also walk regularly. I go on 3 mile walks about 5 days a week. Seems to help.

Hang in there. That's a heck of a surgery you just had. Healing is slow, but you'll get better.

I'm 18 months post surgery. Had leakage issues for many months. Today I still use a light pad as there are occasional issues. Exercise and forms of exertion, getting out of a car, coughing and sneezing still cause leakage. I've accepted this.

Good morning to you all, tomorrow Monday December 28 will be 2 months of my robatic surgery and yes the first month I was leaking like a baby,I couldn't control when I was sneezing, coughing, getting up from a chair, getting out of the bathtub etc...I do my exercises every day Kegels and others and it does have improvement.Yes I do leak ,some days are better then others,my wife ( thank God that I have her ) explains to me that I had hell of a surgery, the outside of the body may be healed but the inside takes time and patience,it takes time for the vessels to strenghten.Yes it will take for some patience 4 or 5 or even to a year before it gets really better, not every body heals the same. It's like taking a pill, this certain pill could have a good effect on you and for others it could be the opposite.Don't give up hope,I'll be 70 in July. Also be careful of wht you drink, coffee, tea, soft drinks like Pepsi,Coke etc...
hard liquor are not a good thing to take for now, they have an effect on the vessels.Decaff tea or coffee is okay.I was drinking a lot of Pepsi,I don't anymore and it helps a lot. Take care,it will get better.

My robotic surgery was 2 months ago as well. My situation is surprisingly similar to Teddy2834. Still leaking and yes, some days are better than others. I will be 70 in September. Unfortunately I take a diuretic every morning, so I have more leaks early in the day. I try to stay active during the day and do my kegels often. I think I saw someone say on this forum that you don't measure your progress day by day but week by week. So with that said, things are improving but slowly.

Thanks for sharing your stories and for the encouragement and advice. This
forum is very helpful as we all travel this uneven road to healthier destination

Like the others have said , it will take time.

But look on the bright side, some people have leakage and lack of control and they didn't need surgery to get there...

(I was referring to myself there, no one take that personal, ok?)

I am 71 and I had my surgery five weeks ago. I was catheterized for a few extra days due to the Thanksgiving weekend. I a have some control starting and stopping but there is always more and any sort of bending or getting up causes leaks. I am interested in what other exercises can be done (other than kegels). Would appreciate any feedback Ken

Lots of folks around here (me included) will recommend walking. I do my kegels while I walk. I also do kegels when I am doing situps, leg lifts, and upper body exercises with free weights. Were it not for Covid, I'd be doing Pilates, as well. One thing that is key, I think, is to exercise mindfully: that is, focus on maintaining control as best you can and don't demand perfection. You are retraining nerves and muscles and, just like any other athletic endeavor, rehab takes time. Be glad you didn't go through Tommy John surgery!

Hi,what I do as extra exercises I lay down on the floor pulling my knees towards me then I lift yup my behind contracting my penis and as Im doing this I breath out,I do this 15 times, another exerzise I lay down on the floor on my side bending my knee toward me and I open my leg that's not on the floor always doing the same breathing procedure as the other exerzise then I do the same on the other side,

@marcel Please give an update to your recovery - It will help future readers to have this follow up information. How many weeks or months since your surgery?

Almost 4 months post prostatectomy I am still leaking often heavily and periodically mild to moderate levels. I do my Kegels faithfully and have seen a physical therapist on three separate occasions. I am able to feel the urge to urinate and then rush to the bathroom but still disappointed in the level of progress I have achieved in almost 4 months..Please share any of your ideas if any
