Hi Everyone, I thought you may find the following three links interesting.

I don’t think they should have to list all the things that could go wrong on TV. I mean, there can be a commercial for Tylenol yet Tylenol doesn’t have to say all the things that it does wrong to your body like destroy your stomach to the point of giving you a bleeding ulcer like it’s done to me several times, as well as destroying your kidneys and liver. People can get that information themselves when they get the prescription/supplement or from their prescribing doctor or pharmacist. All those horrific warnings don’t need to be on TV. I do like having prescription medication commercials on TV because sometimes your doctor won’t know about a medication but you will! That’s how I found out about Veozah, a non-hormonal prescription for menopausal night sweats and hot flashes. My doctor still insists she’s never heard of it!!!!

I don’t like those articles because they’re very judgmental and just assume that everyone can lose weight by diet and exercise, which is absolute bullshit. Some overweight people are healthier than skinny-looking people. That’s a very opinionated website and it’s not like it’s news coming from NBC or CNN.

Drug ads need to be completely banned. It’s not a “free speech” violation because gigantic corporations are not people, regardless of what some appallingly bad SCOTUS case law may say.

Ban drug ads like the banned cigarette ads. Cigarettes used to sponsor every news cast in the nation. The stories about cancer didn’t take hold till that was stopped. Even outdoor ads and sports ads were stopped. Nascars prime series used to be the Winston Cup. And about half the F1 race cars were sponsored by Kool and Marlboro. We can and should kill pharma advertising dead.

@Newbie2this - I understand that only the 3rd link actually worked. If you do what I explained, you can Goggle the other two - Interestingly years ago, when the FDA offered what we now call Big Pharma the opportunity to advertise - They almost all firmly declined saying it was a bad idea because of patient safety. Hard to believe given the current state of affairs. Also, the United States and New Zealand are the only countries so far that allow direct to consumer advertising. - Pam

@snow - Sorry snow I didn't explain that very well. The People's Pharmacy in your opinion is very judgemental. Maybe it would be more acceptable coming from NBC or CNN. Medical topics is probably the only topic that network news could be unbiased about. - Pam

Those drug commercials on the radio literally drive me up a wall! They go on ad infinitum, ad nauseam describing side effects and giving a whole exegesis on who should not take this drug. Blah! Blah! Blah!
There should be a law to limit the time for airing those commercials. The way things are done now can be described in just three letters, TMI!!!
I agree with @snow that people can simply find out for themselves from their doctors/pharmacists about any and all side effects and whether they should or should not take a certain drug.
That said, she has a very valid point as many times you'll hear about a prescription drug on the radio or TV and you can discuss the merits (or demerits) of taking that drug with your doctor. As @snow pointed out, there are times when the doctor has never heard of that drug and bringing it up for discussion may be just the thing to do!
