Tamsulosin medication for bladder

I had my first PC visit and I’m diagnosed with OAB and was prescribed Tamsulosin to relax my bladder and other players in the neighborhood as well as my prostrate. So if this relaxes muscles will I pee more in my sleep? It’s supposed to help with the emptying of my bladder when I urinate. What about the shitty neighbor Nextdoor? Will my bowels be relaxed as well. Oh no I hope not! Any guys out there that have been prescribed this med?

Back when I had a prostate, I was prescribed it. I was having to pee too frequently. At about the end of the fourth week, I had concluded that it wasn't helping me -- and just then, suddenly it kicked in significantly. All it did for me was decrease the frequency of urination day and night. Longer trips without needing the bathroom, better sleep without having to get up 4 or 5 times for the bathroom. No negative effects.

I've been on Tamsulosin for about 7 years. No bad side effects that I can feel.

HOWEVER...
Be aware that Tamsulosin is a risk factor if you ever have cataract surgery. It can cause "floppy iris syndrome". From what I have read, Tamsulosin can cause this even if you have stopped taking it for a long time prior to surgery. Just be sure to tell the surgeon that you have taken it. Not all surgeons know how to compensate for this.

I only have one eye and I am about to have cataract surgery on it, so I am more than a little concerned about this risk. (My doctor didn't warn me about this when he first prescribed it.)

I no longer take medications without researching their side effects. I have found that even my best doctors don't take the time to research the meds they prescribe.

I was on Tamsulosin and it didn’t help me.

The urologist explained it that it relaxes your bladder if it’s overactive so it’s not the sudden urges, but gives you normalized signals to make you actually find a bathroom.

This won’t relax your bladder that causes you to pee more in your sleep, and it’s a completely different system than your bowels so it won’t have any effect there.

Tamsulusin paralyzes (relaxes) the upper sphincter muscle, making it easier to pee with BPH. BPH can also be the cause of urge incontinence. In this case, tamsulosin can also have the effect of calming the entire system and improving urge symptoms.

This can work - but it does not have to. In the second step, spasmolytics such as oxybutin or tolderodine can be used. However, one must be careful here not to over-therapize and then cause urinary retention.

On the subject of bowel, I can tell you that it can have an effect. It can cause constipation as well as diarrhea. I just tried this for 4 months and my urge problems did not get better with it. I was able to pee better, but I had a runny nose and diarrhea so bad that I couldn't make it to the bathroom a few times.

Since I no longer take the stuff it is worse with the pee but the runny nose and the diarrhea is also gone....
