Rant time... Issues with insurance.

So, I was fired from my job back in January due to not being able to go back. Ran out my FMLA, Bla-Bla-Bla.

Well, they still have me listed as active on their insurance so the doctors/hospitals cannot bill my Medicaid insurance because they have to bill employer insurance first. Well, the work insurance is denying the claims because I have a Medicaid plan... So no one is paying my doctors/hospital bill as of now.

I had my financial advisor reach out to the insurance company and even they cannot remove me because they still have me listed as active on the insurance from work. I could not reach work today so I am going to email HR. and see what they say.

The big issue is that no one has been paying the insurance premiums for months now and I don't have the money to pay it. I have had the Medicaid plan for this whole year so this should not be an issue I even have to deal with.

Yep shaving my head so I don't pull my hair out.

I am quite sure that you don't need this headache. You already have enough to deal with. Email to HR will resolve this, I hope.

If you are over 65, Medicare is primary by law, apparently. Ask your financial advisor if that applies to your age. What's wrong with that former employer, he asked rhetorically. HR has it's head where the sun doesn't shine....

Boy oh boy, @AlasSouth, ain't that the truth about most HR offices???? They don't act in the best interest of the "human" in human resources!!!

I am only 36 but with everything going on I feel a lot older, LOL. The thing is that now that I have had time to look back through emails and all that. It seems like Chewy.com corporate HR had me listed as on a leave of absence, but my local HR fired/terminated me on 1/16/2021. So, there is a big conflict there.

Worst yet is I have to wait to get a reply email as there is no one to call/no one answered the phone so... I am stuck waiting on emails.

I don't know how this is going to go because local HR messed up. But if I am still on as active which means that I still build up my paid time off as policy dictates it that way. So they might own me money in the end... Not that I care, but I think it would be poetic justice for all the crap (Pun intended) that I have been through it with all of this.

My unfortunate experience with Med Insurance is that they may be able to demand back money for either overpayment or unqualified payment; I know for sure that happens with our Workman's Comp and for Disability. Medicare sticks it's nose in there, too. I gather you aren't on Retirement, and that's another whole horse of different color, in these situations.
REMEMBER: That's my situation and my Insurance and former employer, not yours. If there is a Contract or a Booklet, check there before calling the Insurance.
WAAAY back, I learned to read Medical Policies - most are in Lawyer, not English; but the Booklets can be understood, if not complete.

For heavens sake, FL, I hope you can get this resolved without cost!

Just got an email a bit ago... They are taking care of it. My local HR never let corporate HR know that I was let go. Should be fixed by next week.

I’ve got a similar issue here in Pennsylvania with a state supplement to my Medicare. I’m no longer eligible due to my age. They stopped thx billing but I’m still in the plan and can’t get out of it blah blah blah. It’s causing a mess. Interfering with part D plan. The social worker at my health clinic said that because of the pandemic, state employees are working at home and stuff is falling through the cracks. I can expect to get a huge bill for back premiums.

Insurance/health care is way too hard. Damn near had a heart attack trying and failing to fix this after spending hours on the phone.

That is where I am at with it. I cannot even get myself off what was my employee insurance. So I have them working on it now but no one has paid premiums for the past year so, yea they messed up big time. And I don't have the money to pay them because my budget just got cut due to making too much with my insurance-biased disability payments.

I don't know whether to advise you to tell your bank to quit paying, or not. It might depend on if it is a life-threatening situation or not. If it is, would it be worth it to pay back after they treat you?
You get different care if they think you have insurance. I think the ER has to treat you, but I'm not sure they have to transfer you to a bed in the regular hospital. Does that vary by state. Check first.
Our medical care system is broken, da** it!

I still get treated no matter what, and here is why.

The Hospital always bills my listed insurance which is Medicaid biased. But then the Medicaid system here in PA automatically bills my active employer-based insurance instead. Again, automated so no choice.

So they have no clue until my employer-based rejects the claim that there is an issue.

It is really that messed up. Like the only insurance that the hospital has listed for me is my Medicaid but the system still bills the other one.

So, Small update on this. As of this morning, the issue is still not fixed.

Was told by the insurance company that I would be done by tomorrow but we will see.

So here is the issue. My local HR team fired me but never let the main HR know. The system in place to kick people that just don't show up saw that I was on FMLA and put me on a leave of absence. (It is automated so someone would have to check it to know) So now the main HR is trying to backdate my fire date but they don't know if they can.

They have the recorded phone calls from local HR stating that I was fired but again no one let the main HR know.

It is just so stupidly incompetent for this to not have gone unnoticed.

But hay, nothing else goes as it should with me so.

Hey ThatFLGuy. Call HR and tell them you would like to collect all the back pay that you are owed since you are not fired... :D
I bet that would get them moving.
