Prostatectomy surgery

I had a prostatectomy surgery in September 2019 and so far I have urine leakage and I am using a pampers daily. Any permanent solution please ?

I have the same problem and my surgery was in December 2019. I use one medium pad per day and two if I play tennis. On the plus side I can get an erection twice a week. I am worried that if I go for surgery, e.g., a sling, it will cause more complications with ED and need to be replaced. If anyone has any experience with a sling and impact
on ED, I would love to hear about it.

There are two different options should your urologist approve of them, first there is the sling, or an artificial sphincter. Have not had either procedure. Also, do the Kegels, religiously. Good luck.

I had my prostatectomy/diverticulotomy in April of 2017. Prior to that surgery, I had green light prostate surgery that helped for a while. I still leak to the point of wearing tape on diapers during the day, and pin on cloth at night. I'm 74 dealing with heart failure, and recent back surgery. I have had so many test, procedures, etc. that I have decided to manage as I am. It takes some time to get used to wearing a diaper, but after time one figures out how to cope. Although, the stigma associated with adults that have to wear diapers, and anxiety preparing for being out in public is still there.

I had RP surgery in May 2019. I wear 1 medium size diaper per day and 2 - if walk more. I did Kegel exercises the first couple of years, but stopped doing that since no further improvement can be expected any more at this point. I researched both options for a permanent solutions: sling and AUS. As a result, I decided not to do any of them. Instead I am trying to get used wearing diapers.

You can use the Search (magnifying glass) option to the left side to search

In general, the Male Urethral Sling Surgery does not have to be redone because tissues grows through the mesh.

The Artificial Urinary Sphincter (AUS) has a 7 to 10 life span (some make it to 15 years).

I am 56 and choose the Male Urethral Sling Surgery because of my age and not liking the thought of another surgery. I had the sling surgery in September 2021. I would do the sling surgery again.

Hi Thudson1965,

Thanks for sharing the positive story on the sling. Did the surgery have a negative impact on erections (ED)?

Thanks again!

It did not affect erections. You have to wait the full 6 weeks for healing.

I do take 10 mg tadalafil (generic cialis) daily. I did get some erections because of the tadalafil.
