Last Night's Meeting

We benefited from a fine presentation by Dr. Kramer on the uses and benefits of penile implants. The graphics were great and instructive. He also recently joined us to review the artificial urethral sphincter for the control of post-surgical incontinence. A question arose as to the usefulness of AUS in post-radiation incontinence. This is a late complication that some of the members are starting to see. The presentation was followed by a nice Q&A with lots of flow of ideas and review of problems. Dr. Kramer remains eager to help us and points out that it is easy to fly to this area for expert care. After Dr Kramer and his colleagues from Boston Scientific signed off, we continued a good discussion. We welcomed back Manny, who has had further evaluation, biopsy and is currently engaged in Active Surveillance. Karl recommended Patrick Walsh's book Surviving Prostate Cancer, including a chapter on "focal therapy." Focal Therapy is emerging now as a treatment option. Bob M notes that maybe talking more often than once a month might be good for some members and offers his telephone number (401.419.8998). Jay's is 508.837.7816; mine is 401.486.0333. Matt's survey has been shared. Some were confused about the intent of the survey and what Matt means by "sharing the narrative." Matt would welcome our questions. And congratulations to the newly wed medical student!! Matt offers his email as matthew_kaczynsky@brown.edu. We are working on a wider distribution of Matt's important addition to patient communication and care. See you Aug 25.
