Post prostatectomy urine odor

I am out about 7 weeks from robotic prostatectomy and been disappointed in urine control but have made gains.
My main concern is that for the last 10 days my urine has been amber with a strong stale odor. My blood glucose is ok. No fever. Not wanting to visit doc during this corona thing
His NP mentioned what I suspected and that I was dehydrated. I also started workjng out and walking more lately. So its possible Im not drinking enough plus any by products of working out may be involved. But I have to drink sooo much to dilute it. Im worried that my bladder may not be emptying thus it stagnants. I usually get 200-400 easily voided urine when things are going good.
Any experience with thid?

I would use the process of elimination. Reduce the workouts or just stop for awhile to see if the color changes. The future may call for a bladder scan. Good luck. Hang in there.

I had strong urine odor from week one to week six. Was certain I had a UTI. I had a culture in week six with a clear result. They gave me a course of Cipro anyway. Stangely the odor went away while at urgent care giving my sample. It has not returned. Unexplained.

Try to drink only water and plenty of it. Dehydration can make it darker and with a smell. Stinks having to go more when you can’t control your bladder

How many pads a day are you using?

I pad my depends with paper towels. But I would suspect 3 if I didnt, just because I cant stand even small amounts of urine. The towels work great for the small amounts. If I drive, sit or walk i have no issue but when i stand or put pressure on perineal region it statrts it and then just small amounts in 20 min period which adds up. My surgeon said to drink a lot to retrain the bladder

@Doug it could be a UTI, sometimes they don't show up on a dip stick, only when cultured. It could be dehydration. In either case you ought to drink more water. Good luck with it, Phil

Definitely drink more water. You want your urine clear as possible. I’m post op week 12 today and seen much improvement in the last 4 weeks so hopefully you will too. I’m drinking plenty of water now cause not leaking like before. Good luck in the weeks ahead.

I use Tena Intimates instead of Depends. Worked much better for me. Contact them and they will send you a sample. All the best.
