Hi, my name is Rachel, 31 year old trans female. I suffer from severe urinary incontinence. I know I'm too you for this, and it seems like there aren't any simple answers. I developed severe urinary incontinence after a reconstructive hip surgery to correct hip dysplasia in 2018.its not just stress incontinence, its way too much and too frequent for that, and its only gotten worse. I also had episodes of bladder pain in late 2018 and lost any control I had. This is expensive and awkward to manage and I'm looking for support and advice.

Have you been to a Urologist or a Pelvic Floor physical therapist? It might be overflow incontinence. HRT can affect the bladder, too

hi rachel -

im trans as well (ftm) and although my incontinence stems from an accident (i have a paralyzed neurogenic bladder) i can relate to the awkwardness and definitely the expense! this puts me back about $150 a month at least and while for some thats not a lot im on disability and it eats away at needed funds.

feel free to reach out. i feel ya.

@justej If you are on disability and get medicaid, you might ask if you can get your incontinence supplies provided my medicaid. I dont know their criteria for this, but my husband is incontinent and gets a generous supply, delivered to the home all paid for by medicaid. At $150 cost to you per month, its worth asking the question ? Good luck :)

@emmydoh oh believe me I’ve been through all of that. I live in DC and our Medicaid only pays .88 cents per diaper. And the only ones they cover are complete crap. Either I pay out of pocket or go around with wet pants still because the diaper leaked. It’s frustrating

Hey Rachel, what about looking for a diaper bank? I ask because I donate all the extra products that the VA sends me.

In regards to bladder pain that's most likely from spasms and only medicine (Oxybutynin is what I take) will "help" but the side effects are not pleasant!!

Request a "urodynamic study" and that will give you a lot of info on what's going on.
