Last appointment with continence nurse

Hi all

Just saw my continence nurse (hospital based) for the last time today and she was supposed to do bladder retraining with me assigned by urologist.

Previous appointment the nurse stated possible Neurogenic bladder which urodynamics did not show 7 years ago and got me to do a 3 day bladder diary.

When I showed her the diary today she stated the bladder was all over the place and is referring me to a work colleague that does community nursing for a catheter company for pads/equipment which I am afraid of having catheter+bag combination as really self conscious and would really accept pads/nappy as have had to accept by myself (no counseling etc due to not able to speak about it) and I am really active and have issues with things sticking on skin (perhaps sensory issues with asd/aspergers)as well as I am so overweight I will have issues seeing what I am doing inserting Catheter.

Any advice would be greatly accepted.

Thank you

I would see what the colleague has to say, and if catheters are part of the plan, then openly discuss your concerns just as you have here. He/she should then be able to work with you on a solution. If you are experiencing retention then at least some catheterization may be needed. If not, then you may be able to get by with absorbents.

I could not use leg bags because I’m active and they slide down my leg and pull on the catheter. I also urinate around the catheter so I still had to wear diapers. My urologist said I could just let the catheter drain into my diaper. You just have to be very clean. I’ve been doing this for over a year now and have never had any problems.

SJPersonal, You didnt state if you are male or female. I am a female that had Oab, urge and stress incontinence. In have had surgeries for the problem , and a tvt surgery, nothing seemed to help that much. I recently tried the Apex M, I am very pleased with the success rate and I am not done with the treatment of 3 months yet, but I have noticed great improvement. Its suppose to be a 90% rate of cure or slowing it down, I have read all I can on the net about Over active bladder and incontinence. the apexM seems to have a good report and the are very helpful , if you call them, they seem to know alt of info. Just type in ApexM and get the info and phone number, and make the call, I am so glad I did.Clevland clinic uroligists has recommended this produc, which tells me something. Good Luck colin13

Isn't this dangerous?

It can be if you’re unclean. I was told by one of the top urologists that it is perfectly fine, so I trust him more than the internet. Staying hydrated is a must. There are a lot of myths about it that simply are not true.
