I am almost 2 months post RP and am having several issues. Basically incontinent and wear diapers constantly. But lately when I urinate my penis opening seems to spray and not be straight like I have some deformity since the surgery possibly it leaks down all over my scrotum and sometimes I can't urinate without pressing my penis down like a lever and it constantly seems like it's in flux.. and then today my scrotum is swollen and feels like it has a lot of fluid in it something else to worry about. My urologist has put me out to pasture for 3 months and has not seemed helpful as I would have hoped. I think staying in these damp diapers all day maybe a cause of some of these issues but I am not a happy camper at this stage at all. I go through about eight diapers a day. Any thoughts about any of those issues would be appreciated

How many times have we heard stories about urologist, who after the surgery, seem to lose interest in the patient? So sorry for what you are experiencing.

ps. My urine stream has become much weaker and slower than it was a month ago and that concerns me also

One of my four surgeries, I had big problems. The urologist did laser surgery resulting in calcium buildup in the urethra. He had to go back and scape the calcium deposits two months later as the urethra was closing.

What I’m trying to say is things can go wrong after surgery and should be check out. I was glad my doctor found out the problem and corrected it. I healed much faster afterwards.

Well I can attest it’s normal to leak like a sieve at two months, and also to spray everywhere for some reason. 10 months out I usually sit to avoid making a mess. Also, I’m still waiting for my first totally dry day although I only wear a “drips and dribbles” pad all day and none at night, so it gets better for sure. For me 3 months was a turning point, then gradual improvement. Good luck.

RD,

Some of your symptoms are normal for this point in your recovery. However, some of them are not common.

I understand your urologist does not feel a normal check up is warranted, but what you are experiencing is not normal.

I’d recommend contacting your urologist and ask for a consultation. May not be necessary to go to the office, ask for a telemedicine consultation.

Explain to him the same information you have shared with us.

If he is unable to see you for any reason find another urologist to review your records and your situation

Please keep us informed.

I assume you were catheterized after the surgery, and if so, I suspect this is why you are spraying more than streaming. I was catheterized while in a coma and it did not go well for me. I've not been able to shoot straight since then.
Perhaps others will be able to chime in on their experiences.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I can only comment on the incontinence issue. I am also 2 months post Radical Prostatectomy and I also wear diapers constantly. I had early issues with spraying urine everywhere after my catheter was removed but this seems to have settled down. I still have a very weak stream. I have been practising Kegel / Lower Pelvic Floor exercises sine the catheter was removed but so far, there is little, if any, sign of improvement. I understand from others that it can take many months to show improvement, so I'm remaining optimistic. But I would agree with other contributors that further input from a medic is required in your own situation. I wish you good luck and would welcome hearing of the outcome. Take good care of yourself.

Thank you to everyone for your responses.. I called the weekend emergency number yesterday and luckily my urologist was the call doctor for the group that weekend and he told me it was not an emergency but to come see him on Tuesday.. so hopefully there's something he can do to help my situation and again thanks to everyone for their input and kindness

So I see my urologist today at 1:00 p.m. and I'm worried that the solution to this week urine stream and swollen scrotum will involve some sort of catheter business again which I am very scared of as I had tremendous amount of pain when they had to put another catheter in the emergency room and it was horrible .. does anyone have any idea of what the doctor might do? When I talk to him on the phone Sunday he said there was a procedure that he might be able to do in his office it would take about 5 minutes which is what I'm hoping for I just was wondering if anyone had any experience with this type situation?? Thanks for any help

Okay I'm back it has been about 3 weeks.. I saw my urologist and he said I had stricture and he would have to perform a dilation.. I didn't know what the hell that was so it was horrible. He's surgically tore into my meatus on six different plunges.. I was screaming it was as painful or worse than the catheter insertion and they had to put in emergency larger catheter in me and thought that was the peak of my pain until that procedure.. it did work in my stream improved dramatically and now 3 weeks later 2 months and one week after my surgery.. I had a breakthrough with the incontinence that was over of time of about 4 days everything changed it's starting to be wonderful knock on wood.. main problem now is an erection haven't been able to get that going.. saw my urologist today though and he gave me Cialis.. anyway I've enjoyed this forum and thank you all

RD,

Glad to hear you are regaining continence. Sorry that you had to under go that procedure. Yet the outcome is where you need to be.

Now that you have your body set on the path to recovery it is kind of amazing that other muscles start to take over the functions of those that were removed as a result of the RP. Doing the Kegel exercises are a standard protocol. I would submit that time and staying physically active also play in the recovery.

Most urologists won’t do much besides what you have already done for ED until a year post surgery. As long as you have the desire there is a means to help overcome ED.

Congrats on the progress to date. Please continue to give us updates along the way.
