DHS rep messed up.

My Department of human services representative messed up big time. Found out today that she input my long term disability benefits back into my income bracket for my disability benefits. I have not gotten long term disability benefits since February. I gave her all the information about it. Today when I called about it a DHS representative hung up on me when I asked if my medical assistant was messed up because she didn’t take my long term disability off my account. Now I am getting up first thing in the morning and going to the office to get to the bottom of all of this.

When I was talking to the lady before bringing up the issues even she said that I should have Medicaid until she saw the income listed from long term disability.

Wow they are so screwed up and covering each others backs at the expense of a severely disabled person in chronic pain.

Do you have an advocate to help you in these matters? Surely there must be an organization who can help you in this mess. Does anyone on this forum have experience in this sort of situation or knowledge of resources available to help? If nothing else, can you contact your local, and if necessary, your state governmental representative? I think it is time for someone to sort through the system on your behalf.

I agree Jeff my heart goes out he should get have to pay a lawyer to get the base line help every time

@ThatFLGuy This is probably going to sound totally lame FLGuy, but do any of the local television stations still do those segments that help people resolve a problem? - usually involving money of course. You know what I mean - like "7 on your side" Amazingly just the publicity alone made the offending party step up and voila! the problem was resolved. - Even if all that has gone by the wayside - I agree that you need someone to be the squeaky wheel and jump up and down to resolve this for you. Some kind of patient advocate that can step in and make them clean up the mess that they created. - Pam

I agree Pamny he's one strong mother trucker and has advocated hard for him self against a terrible beaurocracy

Pace yourself emotionally. You may have to lose the occasional battle in order to stay in the war- and ultimately win it. Praying for you.

That really sucks but it does not surprise me. Just like every other agency we deal with, you have to do their job for them if you want it done right. Insurances are almost the worst. Good think they have government to claim the worst title. Good luck FLGUY.

What a terrible situation. I'm so sorry.
I'm wondering if your senator or congressperson could intervene on your behalf, since the problem is with the federal govt.

Sorry, I have not posted an update sooner.

So the local assistance office was very helpful but told me exactly what I figured that they would.

I do not qualify for Medicaid due to the amount I get from social security and the information that the DHS helpline gave me was wrong.

Here is the thing. This all has to do with three things. How much I paid into social security, The timing of getting my social security made me have to have a review before the new rules went into place, and lastly, my being listed as a qualified Medicare beneficiary and not a low-income Medicare beneficiary.

Here is the big thing. If I could do workers with a disability then I would qualify for Medicaid. I only have to work one hour a week and do not have to disclose where that is. This is stupid because it was never brought up before about how it really works.

My thing is that there is almost nothing I can do yet. I have to get things figured out with my health before I end up worse than I am already.

Also, there are a lot of other issues going on with trying to get seen by doctors. I know I sound like I am beating a dead horse but this is a real issue in my area. The hospital told me that that is no GI doctor that can see anyone without it being an emergency until February of next year. I brought up that there are over 18 GI doctors in just one building and that they have access to every GI doctor within their hospital system and was told that I would have to call each hospital myself to see what is open. The issue is that my main GI doctor oversees several hospitals but cannot see me unless I play the system and go into the hospital first thing in the morning and make someone see me.

Which is what I am going to do this week. I have to get seen because if I don't my mental health is going to keep getting worse and that is not something I will except.

That is too much, too hard, ridiculous to prevent you from being seen. Take good care, the best that you are able.
