Deodorant

Hello, I’m using pads and changing them often however I am noticing the strong smell of urine on myself. I’m drinking water to dilute it thus I leak more and continue to smell. I’m beginning to feel self conscious about this. Can anyone recommend a deodorant spray or powder etc.

I like Lume which is a soap or body wash they make it in a rub on deodorant stick and a cream. Takes a pea size amount for front and back.
Sold on line for deal packs or at Walmart

@VAC55 that’s a good suggestion. Will try it also. Been using a quick spray of some cologne in the diaper before putting it on. Maybe I’m just fooling myself tho🤪

The most effective method to reduce urine odor I found is to drink more fluids. That also helps keeping UTIs at bay.

Ub66 I have been drinking a lot but the hot weather and the guard really festers and the smell really blooms.

The key is to wash that area often throughout the day.... or at least use wet ones. Arm amd Hammer deodorant works good for me, use it everytime after refreshing myself. No smell at all. Needless to say some days are better than others so on fairly dry days there is no need to refresh/wash that area at all.

Make sure you stay completely shaved in the region. Hair harbors dank, fetid smells. Using an anti-perspirant and deodorant combination is critical to both prevent you from sweating in the first place and then to mask it when you do. Also, change more often.

I have never found my privates to smell bad even though I don't shave there. I regularly check with my wife, and she confirms that the only times she can detect any smell related to my incontinence is when I wear a diaper for too long when it is hot, over 6 hours. But as soon as I change and wash, there is no more smell she can detect.

This is a topic that I have seen come up before, yet I don't THINK I have ever had an odor problem. I certainly HOPE I'd be able to detect it if I did smell. Indeed, on one or maybe two occasions in the past, I have been able to smell it, but only when I've gone way too long without changing- and that is when I was sick in bed with food poisoning and wore the same (super-absorbent) brief for a prolonged period. (I was sleeping the whole time, I guess) I hope I'm not in denial. (Though, maybe that would explain a total lack of friends... just kidding.) I can certainly smell my own b.o. anytime I've not worn deodorant, so hopefully I'm not living a lie. I don't always drink enough water, and when I change, I clean up with a wet face cloth; in the shower, I use a strongly-scented soap in my underwear zone. So, perhaps- hopefully, like ub66, I am not someone whose urine has a strong odor- other than first thing in the a.m.

Update
I took Snow’s advice and trimmed the bushes back. Not fun but the tree looks much larger. lol

I also found a deodorant for men called mando from the makers of lume. They had a kit with soap, wipes, cream and stick deodorant. I highly recommend it. There are many scents and I feel much more confident.

There's a lot of good advice here. Also a good old fashioned bath. Sitting in a tub for awhile. I wish I could do it more often. But I need My husband to help. I'm quadriplegic. And I get a shower every other day. Once or twice a week My husband will get Me in the tub for awhile. I feel clean after that. They tell Me I don't smell. But sometimes I feel like I do.
