Dealing with life

Just venting. I have been dealing with this now for 5 months and when I think I have been able to cope with having a bad bladder, I find myself depressed after having accident. I just want to know how to be able to live my life now that I have to wear a diaper for the rest of my life? I mean it doesn't bother to have to wear one but not having control of my bladder is driving me crazy. It goes off at a bad time I'm trying to find a place to change myself.

There are treatment options out there and they are improving every day. Have you reached out to a urologist who focusses on incontinence? They can try to help identify the cause and suggest a series of treatments. Not all work for everyone but, if you stick with it, you might be able to find an option that offers some improvement for you. good luck.

I know exactly how you feel, 20 months ago I was in the same place, totally incontinent and young enough to expect at least 30 more years of having to live with it. While I have a good, loving and supportive family, they did not grasp just how much this impacted my life and made me feel.

I echo JSSSSS, what kind of help have you sought? Specifically, have you looked into Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy? I have a post on what I learned and gained from that here: https://forum.nafc.org/topic/423/prostate-surgery-and-incontinence/ BTW, my insurance covered it.

There are also other treatments that a urologist can do. My father, 25 years ago had a valve installed.

Most importantly, keep yourself up, thinking positively. I do not know the cause of your incontinence, but there are worse things than leaking.

Hello gotdry, ref your comments "There are also other treatments that a urologist can do. My father, 25 years ago had a valve installed."

Please to tell me how the valve works and what the procedure
is called. Then I will research it on INET.

I'm currently trying to cope with 6 months of OAB madness. I will look at anything that might possibly give me some relief of my Urge Incontence OAB.

Thanks in advance.

Marc42, I think you would be wise to seek some diagnostic tests from qualified urologists (go right to a urologist who deals with incontinence issues, skip the PCP). It will start slow but if they can isolate the type of incontinence and causes, they can offer specific next steps to you. For most incontinence, there are three levels of treatment first line, second line and third line. Nothing is a cure but if you find the right treatment, it will usually bring substantial improvement. The most important thing is to be patient. Insurance will often require that you try each phase for a period of time before moving to the next so that means you may experience lack of results on the way to finding the right intervention for you. I truly believe you can find some relief if you work with a specialist and have patience.

Hello gotdry, I appreciate your response to my query.

Funny thing, today I went for my 7th PTNS treatment which has so
far has not produced any positive results for fixing my OAB.

The Lady giving the treatment suggested that I consider
having something called "Sphincter" surgery.

Sounds like this may be a similar procedure that your Father had.

I have an appointment to consult with a Urologist who has experience
doing this type of surgery.

Thanks for the info. you provided.

Life is hard, I am a brain tumor survivor who was married to an alcoholic for 34 years and had no where to go. My Father was an alcoholic, I didn't know any better when I married him. He lied to me at the get go about having kids. He didn't want any and didn't care that I did. It was always and has been about him. WE cannot go back. Just try to enjoy life and life is in the now. I think about the future and freak out. I have to stop doing that. Be grateful for today's blessings. Therapy for my pelvic floor muscles has helped me a lot. I have a lot of things wrong with me and try to live life to the fullest. DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS, EASY SAID THAN DONE. WE live better than 95% of the world, be grateful. Your problems could be a lot of things, anything from food, weak muscles, anxiety, depressions, lack of exercise with other stuff. Just get your regular checkups and have a good physical therapist that specializes in this kind of stuff. it is hard to find a good doctor-good luck. I think the assistants to the Doctors are better than the Doctor sometimes. I have several Doctor's from several different hospital systems.I go with the Doctor, I like the independent ones, they have more control over their skill.

@Marc42

Marc, I totally get it. For the most part I accept my bedwetting but sometimes when I wake wet I get so frustrated that I wet the bed and can’t claim totaly night control ar my age. If I haven’t bedwetted for several weeks and then have an accident it can be aggravating.

Marc42,

This message is similar to what I have posted before, but if you haven't considered it, there are external devices on the market that may work for you to control the leakage. Personally, I wasn't thrilled with any of them for mainly comfort and convenience reasons. Forgive me on this, but I then started on a path to develop a better product that is comfortable and convenient. I'll only say at this point that it is made of soft silicone and can be worn all day long. (I wear mine 14 hours every day and sometimes at night, depending on my hydration.) I'll be happy to provide more info, if you are interested. Regardless, try to reduce the leakage rather than deal with the leakage is something I suggest you should look into. Best wishes to you.
