Cystoscope and urodynamics done today

Well I had both a cystoscope and urodynamics study done today.

And the virdict is in about my bladder...

Drum roll sound..

My bladder is totally weakend to the point of barely functioning at all.

It won't hold much urine at all.

After the scope and urodynamics where done in same day surgery and I was heavily sedated.

I was sent home with a Foley catheter.

I was told to call and make a follow up appointment, and treatment options will be discussed.

I have been through each of those, but with no sedation. Neither was comfortable. We will be interested to learn along with you what the results are and how your doctor will choose to treat you after the diagnosis. May you have the catheter removed soon. Good luck and know there are lots of folks here who will support you.

When I was given a referral to see my urologist it was noted for consideration of a cystoscopy.

My urologist did not have one test in the three visits I saw her.

All she seemed to want to do was push medication that she couldn't due to my GI issues.

That is something else I am going to talk to my PT today about.

@ThatFLGuy yeah I had to find a new urologist with the help of my neurosurgeon.

All he wanted to do was push meds that I've been on in the past that not only didn't work, but gave me severe side effects that are listed side effects. Involuntary facial spasms and twitching it was very very annoying to say the least.

@compwiz878 Sooooooo embarrassing and uncomfortable as a female laying on my back with my legs propped up and for over an hour. And yes, it was painful but nowhere near as bad as bladder injections, which I find excruciating. Some here - primarily men - report that it’s slightly uncomfortable but doesn’t hurt. I’ve been getting mine for five years and they don’t get easier. I have to take a washcloth to bite down on so I don’t break my teeth.

@snow eeek kinda glad I was sedated.

But it likely wouldn't matter as I have little to no pain sensation from neck down.

I'm not a paraplegic or quadraparlgic but might as well be. And I don't mean that in a negative way towards paralyzed and quadraparlgics .

I had a disc in my neck at the c3-4 level that herniated from degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis.

The disc put so much of a pinch on my spinal cord that it nearly got severed ie cut .

Had surgery but the damage was already done. So I'm left with a severely damaged spinal cord.

Since I can't feel much pain I get what Paras and quads get. Which is disreflexia.

This causes sweeting, syncope ie fainting and shivering. It's the body's secondary response to pain and or discomfort.

Cystoscopy is unpleasant for me, but as @snow says, not excruciating. Botox injections are worse. I've never been sedated for a cysto (except the ones that involve hydrodistention, which is done under general anesthesia) but I still wish I got sedated!

I had cystoscopy including hydrodistension while not anesthetized. I peed everywhere, all over their floor. I could retain it for a while, but it just set loose after about a minute. They said nobody had ever peed so much so fast.

My urologist was 80. He just retired. Maybe he was old-fashioned in his treatments. He at least gave me Valium in advance to decrease my anxiety.

My first cysto was with an older urologist who still used a rigid scope. That was borderline excruciating - not only are rigid scopes not as comfortable as flexible scopes, but it was one of the first times I'd had anything in my urethra. Ouchie!

@snow, I can't imagine having to go through that kind of bladder filling without being sedated or anesthetized! That sounds horrible. I may have peed all over, too, but at least I didn't have to be awake for the experience.

@compwiz878, how are you doing now? Is the Foley out yet?
