Colon surgery for Diverticulitis??????

So, next week I will be having surgery to fix acute diverticulitis. It is the first time that I will have surgery and I only have a few idea about what is going to happen and what the side effect could be. When I talked to the surgeon during the first meting he did not have all of my CT scans or the images from my colonoscopy so I was not totally convinced that he knew how much of my colon would have to go. I do however know from talking to my GI doctor that almost all of my large intestine is effected by it and I let the surgeon know. I hope it goes well but wanted to know if anyone else has had this done. I am only 34 and the side effect of if they have to take a lot of the colon are not the greatest but it will be better then living with the pain that I am in right now.

I would suggest you try lemon juice with warm water every morning. My therapist had this problem and uses this method and says it cured him of the problem.

My issue is that I have had three major flare ups with infections each time that required antibiotics to prevent more abscesses. I would have loved to go without surgery but doing it now verse doing emergency surgery because I almost die again due to this is a better option.

Colon perforated from a diverticulitis when I was 30. Had peritonitis, a colostomy for three months and then reconnected. They took out about 10”. Have it out. Only two, very slight flair ups in 23 years.

My sister has it and had surgery. it was tough but the pain became unbearable to her. Good Luck. Try to follow the diet-no seeds-nuts-popcorn-anything that can get trapped. After you are healed and on antibodies for awhile. Try eating more fiber-especially beans everyday. One does not want anything sitting in the colon. I feel this may help. Google it and look it up-One never knows what is out there.
