Cheaper high capacity

So, on a whim I decided to use one of my betterdry diapers the other day. My normal day to day diaper is a small megamax. I have been doing a hack in which you place a microfiber shop towel purchased from Costco folded in thirds into the diaper which both adds to capacity but also spreads the wicking ability of the diapers. My urges come in large surges and can completely overwhelm a diaper and so I usually only have two accidents before I have to change. The towel in the diaper extended that to three, and the towels are easy to wash.

So yesterday I tried the same setup with a betterdry and that diaper wicked ALL day. It used its entire capacity and then some before finally leaking out the back while I was sleeping. I tried it again today and again it’s like a completely different diaper that can take everything I throw at it. Given betterdry clocks in at around 1.75 a diaper and megamax is 2.35, that’s a saving of 60 cents a diaper, which isn’t a lot but over time that adds up. I will miss the black diapers that I felt were hidden. Not crazy about switching back to the boring white that also shows when wet whereas the black didn’t change color, but I think this new method is worth it. I will be calling Northshore next week to switch me to betterdrys on my autoship.

Just thought I would share these observations in case it helps anyone budget their incontinence.

Good information on the better dry. I haven’t been a huge fan of them in the past but from reading your post I may have to give them another try as it was a few years ago when I tried them and cannot exactly what I didn’t like lol.

Great reason to try them again as your review above would confirm that reasoning. Lol. Oh the joys of incontinence ;)

I use a cotton diaper or a receiving blanket and it does go a long way toward preventing leaks. Unfortunately, it also increases the odor and the chance of skin problems.

I totally agree with the above posts. I've been adding, and advocating the use of, a cotton soaker pad (actually a Walmart Flour Sack Towel folded into a 12 layer pad) in my nighttime diaper for years. It's the only method I've found to reliably stop leaks when you are a side sleeper. I also add a PUL pant over that but I think only once or twice in 4+ years I've even had a drop or two got outside of my main diaper, and was easily contained by the PUL pant. I rinse out the pad in the morning and hang it to dry, then it goes into the hamper to get washed in the regular wash.
