Can inguinal or umbilical hernias affect incontinence?

Incontinent post prostate surgery and facing surgery on two hernias.

Not 100% sure, but I had mine repaired 22 years ago without any additional incontinence issues. I was already a bedwetter.

I don’t think it will affect incontinence. Many hernias are now repaired with minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery - not nearly invasive as it was years ago. Mine were repaired that way back in 2005 and reinforced with mesh. I also went to a Dr who specialized in hernia repair because of a hernia on the same side that was repaired back in 1966, the old way and I was concerned about previous scar tissue from the 4” opening that was cut back then. So I believe you can be less worried.
